And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
God defines true Goodness
God defines true Goodness
Have you ever thought about what makes something good or not?
Most the time when we talk about something being good, it results into a matter of opinion. Joy and Micah love Root Beer and Black Licorice and think its the best, but Judah and I are correct in thinking that it is trash and should never be served in decent company. My mother would drink orange juice with her chocolate cake. (Floridians are weird.)
If goodness is only defined by what we think, then you would never come to a universal agreement on the goodness of anything. So fortunatly for us God defines goodness. Goodness itself is actually one of God’s atributes, He is goodness.
Our Key Term today is “True Goodness- A God-Defined standard”
When it comes to goodness, God doesn’t define it like we do. Its not an ABCF kind of deal, or a long as you pass its fine. With God either something is 100% Good and perfect, or it isn’t.
God Makes Things Good
God Makes Things Good
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
When God made the universe He made it to his standard. It was good. No flaws, no death, no sickness, no pain. Just good. Even today God makes things good, even in a “not so good” world.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Think about the story of Joseph. Terrible things happened to him, but God took those and made good out of them.
God Made us Good
God Made us Good
You are not a mistake. You are not a burden. In his creation of people he called us very good. You are a special creation of God. You might not live up to societies definition of perfection, because Societies defintion of perfection is rediculous anyway. God made you to be you. Unique like we discussed a few weeks ago.
Middle school years are full of awkward as you tranistion from a child to an adult. Don’t let the world convince you that you are trash. God made you good.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
We Messed it up with Sin
We Messed it up with Sin
In two weeks we begin a whole unit on how sin has messed up God’s creation, but for now lets just accept the facts that we are responsible for messing up God’s good creation.
God Makes Things Good Again
God Makes Things Good Again
The whole Bible is telling us the story of how God sent Jesus to redeem his creation from the brokenness of sin.
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
