1 Corinthians11:17-34
When a public dinner is given, and guests are invited there is usually a lot of eating and drinking. The eating and drinking are to your own discretion, your eating and drinking is between you and God. The Bible states that eating too much or overeating is gluttony which is a sin. The Bible states that we should drink in moderation not to get drunk or intoxicated. The best way is to abstain from eating too much and drinking. The Bible tells us to judge in Matthew 7:1 Judge not , that ye be not jugged. Rather than judging others, we should observe , repent, and correct our own shortcomings and sins. One of Michael Jackson “Man in the mirror” I am looking at the man in the mirror and I am asking him to make a change. When we point one finger at another person we have three fingers pointed back at us.
When we do things to satisfy self and not looking out for your fellow man we are not doing it to bring glory to God but to our own selfish desire and dust there is no worship of God. When we don’t acknowledge the instruction left behind by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to proclaim his death till he come. This is not a remembrance of our Lord and Savior great sacrifice he made on the cross of Calvary for the sins of the whole world. The Lord Supper is one of the two ordinances of the Baptist Church, the other one is Baptism.
The Lord Supper is celebrated here at Union Baptist Church every first Sunday of the month. It is meant for every baptized believer, if you have not been baptized and you are a believer, unite with a Bible teaching church and become a candidate for baptism and become a member then you are free to take the Lord Supper. Later in this sermon we will be talk about examining yourself which we do when we pray the prayer of forgiveness during the ceremony.
Today we will be looking at how Apostle Paul gave instruction to the Corinthians church at Corinth on their misuse of the Lord Supper and what it really means, and the honor we should give to the one who institutes the Lord Supper.
