So often, we want the truth, and the life, but we forget the way.
The way of Jesus, is just that, a way.

Today - When Jesus got Angry
**prayer**
I want to go to 3 times Jesus got angry.
1st thing to understand - Jesus is coming to people that hate him.
Leaving Heaven, Divinity - Becoming Fully God | Fully Man - to bridge the gap.
Creator coming to dwell in creation.
Let’s look at when Jesus got angry, what we can learn.
Let’s start in Mark 3, Jesus is teaching in a synagogue
And they watched Jesus, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him.
Pharisees - Religious Leaders - Made fence around law - in pursuit to protect religion - Excluded people from God.
What where Pharisees doing? Watching Jesus to slip up. What did they miss? A man in need.
And he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come here.” And he said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.
Huge for guy to show sickness - Society thought - Leprosy result of sin - Cast out.
Jesus asks question.
What’s he saying? I have power to heal, or leave man to harm - either is doing something.
Saying; You are missing heart of the Law. Putting a roadbloack up (Sickness).
So many people, in our effort to be right, have forgot to be loving.
Exactly what happened to Pharisees - Effort to keep law and power - Missed the heart of God.
Our goal is not JUST to be right, our goal is to always be loving.
So what did Jesus do?
And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.
Couple of things - Grief quickly followed Anger - Remember, Last week - Move anger on.
Hardness of Hard = Porosei tes Kardias = Stubbon resistance to the purpose of God.
Greived at their Spiritual Condition - Same as when He wept.
Jesus got angry - He greived - Got on with mission.
Pharisees left - started plotting against him.
Our goal is not just to be right, it is always to be loving.
2nd time He got angry;
Mark 10 - Famous passage.
Jesus on way to Jerusulim - Parents bring children to bress.
Common to bring kids to rabbis.
And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
Indignant = Aganakteo - Deep anger.
Need to understand. Children unimportant = Jesus is saying, do not hinder ANYONE coming to me.
Why Jesus angry? Because like in first story - Roadblock was setup to get to Jesus.
This time, not sickness, it was status.
Children = Unimportant - Jesus is saying, anyone that humbles themselves like little child and recieves gift of Grace = Enters kingdom.
What did Jesus do? Anger landed in lap, got rid of it, got on with mission.
see a theme?
Jesus showing upside down kingdom - Suddenly - those unimportant, was important to him.
Jesus’ Anger led to bringing people in, not drawing lines to keep them out.
3rd time - Most famous.
Passover [ Christmas in Busselton ] -
Jesus little tense - Last week of life - Riding donkey into jerusulem - Thought to free them from opression - goes to temple.
Passover celebration - Everyone had to come to jerusulem - Sacrifice in temple - Had to purchase with temple money.
Too far to carry animal - Buy there.
Business idea!
Needed two things - Temple Money and an animal.
Money changes would hike up exchange rate - Jewish priests would inspect animals and find blemishes - Forced to buy more.
And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”
roadblock
Then something really interesting happens
And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant,
**Temple Picture**
This is where they where set up - Temple Courts - Where gentiles come? Temple courts - ONLY PLACE!
First we see Jesus Heal the sick.
Then he welcomes the children.
Now - both of these people enter the presence of the temple, wiht Jesus, crying out - Hosanna to the Son of David!
Everyone is welcome to worship the Lord.
What else happening here?
Flipping table on the old Covenant - Here to bring New Covenant.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Law there to show us need for a saviour - Written on our Hearts - Saved to walk it out - but not saved BY walking it out.
Saved by faith - It is FINISHED.
Jesus was angry about anything that got in the way of Life, and Life everlasting.
Doesn’t matter;
[knock down] Status | Importance | Good Deeds | Intelligent | Sick | Unworthy
Jesus didn’t come to condemn, He came to save - to show mercy
[Thief on the cross] or John 3:16
Question;
Did Jesus every get betrayed? Critisized? Hated? Unjustly Persecuted? Whipped? Beaten? Mis-treated?
Yes - but never offended for himself - Always angry at anything that became a roadblock to coming to him.
Why?
Because Jesus didn’t care about his reputation to Man. He cared about bringing you home.
Jesus only ever got angry at the seperation between His creator and creation.
When we get angry at people, tend to cancel them.
So glad Jesus didn’t cancel me. Even after I cancelled Him.
Remember poker tournament - Praying - Cancelled Jesus, but He didn’t cancel me.
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Through His love…I found Life.
Not through his anger. Through His Love.
Jesus cancelled my debt, but didn’t Cancel me.
When He got Angry, led to Action, that displayed His Love.
Jesus came to bridge gap - got angry at anyone who would seperate them from God.
Knock roadblocks down
When we get Angry - We are going to use it, to display God’s love, because we recieved His love.
We going to use it to bring help and healing to those that are hurting.
Why?
Because Jesus didn’t say, I say to you put a needle in the eye of your enemies because they offend you,
He said;
But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Through love, we’re going to find life.
We are on a mission;
To Create a community that displays the love of Jesus, reflects the heart of the early church and leads people to be fully devoted followers of Christ.
Why?
To give glory to God by facilitating growth, love and truth in God’s people, equipping them to serve Jesus and advance God’s kingdom, and be the hands and feet of Jesus for our local community.
We won’t shy away from the truth - Because we know it leads to life - but we’ll give it to you in love, and not Anger.
*Pray*
