What Will Believers Be Doing in Heaven?

We know and understand as believers that we will spend eternity in Heaven after we leave this Earth, but the question then becomes, what will we do in Heaven? Is it just nothing but singing and worshipping God all day every day? Will we get bored with Heaven? This is a legitimate question, and one the Bible does give some insight into.
Keep in mind that what the Bible mentions probably does not contain ALL we will be doing in Heaven, as our finite minds probably cannot comprehend it all, but we do get some idea of what we will be doing in Heaven. So what is it we will be doing? And what will we NOT be doing?

I. Worshipping

Revelation 5:11–14 KJV 1900
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; 12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. 13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. 14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
Revelation 7:9–10 KJV 1900
9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
The first and foremost thing we as believers will be doing in heaven is worshipping Christ.
There is no Temple in Heaven because all of Heaven is a Temple, the presence of God is there and everyone is worshipping Him.
Worship is the primary thing we will do in heaven because it is what we were designed to do. It is only in true worship of God that we find real satisfaction and enjoyment in life.
Some of the most deeply moving and fulfilling moments of our lives are when we are swept up in the wonder and awe of our God in worship, and this is what we will do throughout all of eternity.
The worship will be centered on Christ and what He accomplished on the cross and the resurrection.
The angels will worship God for His Greatness and Glory, the saints will worship God for His Salvation!
People from every nation, tribe, tongue, people group, and race will be present and they all will be doing the same thing, worshipping God.

II. Fellowshipping

Hebrews 12:22–23 KJV 1900
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
Another thing Believers will do in Heaven is they will fellowship like never before!
Look at all the different people that will be in Heaven with us:
Old Testament Saints
New Testament Saints
Modern Saints
Saints from every country, culture, and nation in the world
Angels
God the Father - in Person
God the Son - in Person
God the Holy Spirit - in Person
We will be able to freely communicate and fellowship with all of these people as frequently as we wish and for as long as we wish!
The Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:6-9)
All the saints of God will be gathered at the Table with Christ and there will be a celebration and a feast that the “marriage” between the Bride (us) and the Groom (Christ) has taken place!
But best of all, we will be able to know and fellowship with the Lord in a way that we cannot comprehend. Jesus will be our personal friend, and we will fellowship with Him forever and ever!

III. Serving

Revelation 7:15 KJV 1900
15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
Revelation 22:3 KJV 1900
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
Thirdly, we will serve the Lord in Heaven.
God has a task for us to do in Heaven, and we will do it. What specifically that task is, we do not know.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us that one of the reasons that God saved us is for “good works”, but that does not only apply to our life here on Earth, it also applies to Heaven. We will be serving Him in Heaven throughout all eternity!
“Heaven is not only a place of rest from earthly toil but also a place of privileged service”
As we serve Him, He will be among us and we will know His loving care and nurture. He will protect us from any and every affliction!

IV. Working

Isaiah 65:21–23 KJV 1900
21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; And they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; They shall not plant, and another eat: For as the days of a tree are the days of my people, And mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labour in vain, Nor bring forth for trouble; For they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, And their offspring with them.
Revelation 22:3 KJV 1900
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
We will be working in Heaven as well.
Isaiah 65 speaks of the New Heaven and New Earth and how the inhabitants of it will “build” “plant” and “labour”
Your work is not over when you leave this world. We were created to find enjoyment and fulfillment in our work.
in Genesis, the first thing God commanded Adam to do was work, and it was God’s intention for Adam to enjoy his work. But unfortunately the curse of sin is what makes us not enjoy our work today. But in Heaven, the curse of sin will be gone, therefore, there will be joy and fulfillment in our work!!!
“There will be work to do and we shall relish doing it. All the skills and talents we have put to God’s service in this present life – and perhaps too the interests and likings we gave up because they conflicted with our vocation – will be enhanced and ennobled and given back to us to be exercised to his glory.”

V. Resting

Isaiah 57:2 KJV 1900
2 He shall enter into peace: They shall rest in their beds, Each one walking in his uprightness.
Revelation 14:13 KJV 1900
13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
But Heaven wont just be endless work, there will also be rest.
We never seem to get it right here on Earth. We either work so much that we never make time for rest, or we lounge around getting too much rest and not getting enough work done. But in Heaven the 2 will be perfectly balanced. We will work, but we will also rest!
And although we will work hard, we will find permanent rest from the painful toil and labor we experience on this planet as a result of the curse of sin. In Heaven your work will be meaningful and fulfilling, and your rest will be sweet.

VI. Ruling

Genesis 1:28 KJV 1900
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Matthew 25:21 KJV 1900
21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Revelation 3:21 KJV 1900
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Revelation 5:10 KJV 1900
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Revelation 22:4–5 KJV 1900
4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads. 5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
Among all the other things we will do in Heaven, we will also Rule and Reign
In Genesis 1:28 we read how Adam and Eve were created to rule over the Earth and have dominion over it. But in Heaven we will rule and reign with Christ over the New Heaven and New Earth.
In Matthew 25 Jesus spoke of the parable of the talents and what He says in v. 21 seems to hint that we will have new responsibilities in Heaven, and some of those responsibilities will depend on how well you served God here on Earth.
There is some evidence to suggest that on the New Earth, we will be given dominion over the Earth. But we will rule perfectly, and without sin and corruption this time. Also the size of the portion of Earth that you and I have dominion over will depend on our faithfulness to Him upon the Earth now.
God always intended for us to rule and reign, but sin corrupted our ability to do so correctly

VII. What We Wont Be Doing in Heaven...

We will not be Bored
Psalm 16:11 “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
Isaiah 65:17–18 “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: And the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: For, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.”
There will be plenty to do in Heaven “Imagine… life without boredom, or deadlines, or endings. Imagine a life full of learning and exploration and dominion and strength of life. Imagine work that is satisfying and meaningful and offered gladly for the benefit of others.” Elyse Fitzpatrick
And because we will never die or end, we have all the time in the world to do whatever we want to do!
But the main reason we wont be bored is because of God. God is infinite, and we will spend all of eternity learning Him and loving Him.
We will not hurt or be hurt
Isaiah 65:25 “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, And the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: And dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.”
Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
We will not hunger or thirst
Revelation 7:16–17 “They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”
We Will not Mourn or Cry
Isaiah 65:19 “And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: And the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.”
Revelation 7:17 “For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”
Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
We Will Not Sin or Die
Isaiah 65:20 “There shall be no more thence an infant of days, Nor an old man that hath not filled his days: For the child shall die an hundred years old; But the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.”
Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
