The Importance of Continuing in Evangelism: Prayer and Action

Notes
Transcript
Objective:
Help adults understand the significance of persistent evangelism through prayer and action, encouraging them to remain steadfast in spreading the Gospel.
Duration: 15 Minutes
1. Introduction (2 minutes)
Opening Question: “Why do you think some people stop sharing their faith over time?”
• Briefly explain that, while enthusiasm for evangelism may fade, Scripture calls for consistent, passionate efforts. Evangelism isn’t just an event—it’s a lifestyle grounded in prayer and action.
2. Scriptural Foundation (5 minutes)
Read Colossians 4:2-6
Colossians 4:2–6 KJV 1900
Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Key Points:

Persistence in Prayer

Paul urges believers to be devoted to prayer, specifically praying for opportunities to share the Gospel.

Wisdom in Action

We are called to walk wisely and make the most of every opportunity to share our faith.

Gracious Communication

Our words should be gracious and seasoned, reflecting the love of Christ.
3. Practical Application: Evangelism Through Prayer (3 minutes)
Ask: “How can we practically pray for evangelism in our daily lives?”
Suggestions:
Pray for Boldness: Ask God for courage to speak about Him.
Pray for Opportunities: Be intentional about praying for chances to share your faith.
Pray for Others: Ask God to prepare hearts and minds of those who will hear the Gospel.
4. Practical Application: Evangelism Through Action (3 minutes)
Ask: “What are some ways we can actively share our faith?”
Suggestions:
Live Out the Gospel: Let your life be a testimony, showing Christ’s love through actions and attitudes.
Start Conversations: Look for natural ways to share your testimony and speak about your faith journey.
Invite Others: Encourage people to join you at church events, small groups, or community gatherings.
5. Encouraging Consistency (2 minutes)
Illustration: Use the analogy of planting seeds and tending a garden. Just as a gardener doesn’t give up after planting but continues to water and care for the plants, we must persist in sharing the Gospel, knowing that God is at work.
Quote from 1 Corinthians 3:6-7
1 Corinthians 3:6–7 KJV 1900
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
6. Closing Prayer (2 minutes)
• Pray for:
• Boldness and courage to share the Gospel.
• Opportunities for each person to speak with others about Jesus.
• Hearts to be receptive to the message of Christ.
Challenge:
Encourage everyone to commit to praying for three people they can share the Gospel with this week. Take time to write their names down and lift them up in prayer daily.
