Scripture

Psalm 30:1–2 (NKJV)
I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up,
And have not let my foes rejoice over me.
O Lord my God, I cried out to You,
And You healed me.
Psalm 30:3–4 NKJV
O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
Psalm 30:5 NKJV
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

Introduction

It was as a child I learned to pray:
“ Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
It’s important that we teach and pass down the rudiments and tenants of our faith to our children.
Power Principle:
The foundations that we build today will be the one our children stand on tomorrow.
As a child I learned the liturgy. Although I did not realize it then, I was being taught something much more than just the words to a prayer.
For the prayer had locked within the DNA of the stanzas a message so clear and resounding. This prayer indicates a powerful truth. It implies:
“I’m about to enter an area and a time period of vulnerability and uncertainty. There is no more vulnerable place than when you close your eyes. And Yet and still life still goes on. You see, trouble is not in the habit of taking an afternoon nap.[EXPOUND]But through it all, I trust God!
You see, trust isn’t trust when you have it all figured out. Trust is trust when you can’t see your way.
Trust is born in vulnerability.

Exegesis

Psalm 30:1 “I will exalt you, O Yahweh, because you have drawn me up, and have not made my enemies rejoice over me.”
The psalmist declares an exuberant praise. He declares that He will lift God up because God has picked him up.
It’s hard to not praise God when you know he delivered you!
It’s difficult to be seated when you know what He’s worked out for you!
Some might not understand the extemporaneous praise and jubilation that other’s might express and that’s ok for a season. But life has a way of trying to wrestle you to the ground.
When God has makes a way out of no way,
When God turns it around, You can’t help but praise his name.
Psalm 30:2 “O Yahweh, my God, I cried for help to you, and you healed me.”
The Psalmist does not just refer to God as a god. But my God! He is indicating;
That he has a covenant relationship with God because he uses His covenant name.
That when you call on Him, He will answer!
Psalm 30:3–4 “O Yahweh, you have brought my life up from Sheol. You preserved me alive from among those going down to the pit. Sing praises to Yahweh, you his faithful ones, and give thanks ⌊to his holy fame⌋.”
The psalmist acknowledges that it was over for him. He was on a destructive trajectory. SHEOL in that ancient world was considered the “place of no return”. Has anyone felt like they’ve been to the place of no return?
Psalm 30:5 “For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”
That I don’t what’s about happen when I close my eyes.., but I trust God.
I come to give a message to everyone under the sound of my voice. That no matter what you are going through, this too shall pass!
Psalm 4:8

I. Won’t He do It?

Psalm 37:25 NKJV
I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.
Experience has taught me that God will take care of me!
God has always taken care of me and He always will!

II. Yes He Will!

Psalm 4:7–8 NKJV
You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
