Matthew 25:31–46 CSB
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 “ ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or without clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit you?’ 40 “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ 41 “Then he will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels! 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger and you didn’t take me in; I was naked and you didn’t clothe me, sick and in prison and you didn’t take care of me.’ 44 “Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help you?’ 45 “Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Intro:

Youtube Video=Keion Henderson
Sermon is titled “Is all about the Benjamin’s” he used the life of Joseph and his brother Benjamin as a roadmap to wealth.
He asked a question prior to making this statement “Who in here wants to wealthy?” He got buy-in from the audience before he gaslight them.
Yesterday in men’s ministry the former Hebrew Israelite asked us “Why is this movement so successful recruiting men?”
Any movement that satisfies our deep need for Religion and Satisfaction of our flesh at the same time will always be successful fast.
Hebrew Israelites satisfies our need for Religion the claim to followers of the Law which feeds their pride yet they justify their hate of Europeans at the same time. They Religiously Hate
Prosperity Teachers satisfies the deep need for Religion by wrapping greed within a Christian Veneer. They Religiously Covet
Quote from Video “Charity does not bring wealth only the tithe”
It is important when you watch online sermons’ or listen to podcast, that you listen carefully to find out the thesis of what a person is purporting.
Where are they going? What are they really trying to say? What is their agenda? And does this agenda contradict the agenda of Christ.
The agenda for the church is spelled out in one Commandment and one Commission.
The Great commandments Matthew 22:37-39
Matthew 22:37–39 CSB
37 He said to him, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the greatest and most important command. 39 The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
The Great Commission Matthew 28:18-20
Matthew 28:18–20 CSB
18 Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
If the speaker’s agenda is not bound up in these two objectives they should not be trusted.
Every Sermon ever Preached from this pulpit should be pointing to “Love of God, Love of Neighbor, Making Disciples and Sharing our Faith” Yall Jesus made it plain, just so it would easy to spot “rain clouds without water” Jude uses this metaphor to describe false teachers. Jude 12
Jude 12 CSB
12 These people are dangerous reefs at your love feasts as they eat with you without reverence. They are shepherds who only look after themselves. They are waterless clouds carried along by winds; trees in late autumn—fruitless, twice dead and uprooted.
Can you imagine being a farmer and waiting for rain during a dry season, then seeing this big rain cloud nice and dark and you begin to praise God, but the cloud simply passes without producing rain. Catch the Metaphor. Jude says these men look like preacher, they talk like preacher but they don’t bring any substance!!! A rain cloud is supposed to produce rain, just as a fruit tree is supposed to produce fruit. They say a lot but do nothing to prepare for eternity. Their teaching is “sensual” “worldly” and unsatisfying.
Let’s call them Gospel “Red Flags”
I listen to the whole Sermon for context yall to see if he cleaned it up. It did not get any better.
The Lighthouse Church, which serves over 20,000 members across four campuses in different regions of Houston, has been struggling with overcrowding and parking issues, especially at its north campus. Pastor Keion shared that up to 600 people were being turned away each week due to the limited capacity.
Lord speak to us!!!!!

The Sheep & Goat Judgement:

Matthew 25:31–34 CSB
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
(EXP)(31) This verse is describing the Second Coming of Christ. Christ will return visible and set up his kingdom in what is current Israel. The Topography of the Earth will be totally different. Rivers of water will flow from his Throne.
(32) “All nations will be gathered before him” Saints this tells us that there will be a remnant of people that make it through the Great Tribulation and Armageddon. Both of these events will consume roughly 5/6 of the population. Currently there are about 8B on the earth. Once both of these events happen 6.5B will die and about 1.5 will be left. This is that group of folks who made it through.
(33) Among this group are believers and unbelievers. The Believers are describes as “Sheep” and the unbelievers are describes as “Goats”
Then Jesus from his Earthly Throne begins to pronounce judgement.

I. The Sheep

Matthew 25:35–40 CSB
35 “ ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or without clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit you?’ 40 “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
(EXP)(35-36) Jesus in this teaching list five things: Hunger, Thirst, Nakedness, Sickness, and Confinement. Let’s take a look at a passage in Revelation to helps us with this text. In Revelation 13:11-17
Revelation 13:11–17 CSB
11 Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. 12 It exercises all the authority of the first beast on its behalf and compels the earth and those who live on it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. 13 It also performs great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in front of people. 14 It deceives those who live on the earth because of the signs that it is permitted to perform in the presence of the beast, telling those who live on the earth to make an image of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15 It was permitted to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could both speak and cause whoever would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 And it makes everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark: the beast’s name or the number of its name.
(11-17) This prophecy describes a man who’s appearance is very humble and non-aggresive, but when he speaks he speaks with great authority and power. He will compel the world to worship and serve “The First Beast” who is the Anti-Christ a political figure. This man will perform signs from heaven like that of Elijah.
What will the first beast require of mankind?
(16-17) Some sort of mark that allow them to conduct business in society. Buying and Selling. If a person does not have the mark which will be a worldwide mandate(think passport) he/she will not be able to buy grocery or do business thereby making those who refuse scavengers.
Matthew 25:35–36 CSB
35 “ ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me.’
(35-36) This judgment Jesus is presiding over often called “The Sheep and Goats” judgement follows directly after this period I just talked about in Revelation. Remeber the people at this judgement are those that made it through the tribulation. These are people that have been living hand to mouth, because they did not take the mark of the beast.
Jesus says when you help feed, cloth and take of care folks who were running for the life it was if you were taking care of me. Because to take care of them was to also put your life at danger as well.
Don’t forget what Pastor Henderson said “Taking care of the poor and destitute does not have any earthly value in the building of your personal kingdom”
Matthew 25:37–40 CSB
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or without clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit you?’ 40 “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
(37-39) The Righteous perplexed ask Jesus “when did we do all these things for you?” Jesus answer them in (40)
(40) “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sister of mine, you did for me” Jesus tells them my children are so connected to me that when you help them you are helping me. Let me give you term to describe what Jesus just said. “Investment” when you give to the church, when you are lead by God to help someone who is struggling you are making an investment.
Juxtaposed to what Pastor Henderson said “Who proclaimed emphatically, when you help the poor it has not value outside of just meeting the needs of the poor person!” he even claims Jesus says “You help a poor person good job” This Pastor brought Jesus along in his heresy. Proclaiming there is no value in having a heart for the oppressed outside of the act of just giving to them. And that your investment will only grow when you give your tithe.
When he is talking about Tithing he is talking about the OT when it was a requirement any thing less than what was prescribed was consider sinful.
For those who die before the tribulation or who get raptured will there be opportunities for us?
Glad you asked in 2 Tim 1:15-18
2 Timothy 1:15–18 CSB
15 You know that all those in the province of Asia have deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. 17 On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he diligently searched for me and found me. 18 May the Lord grant that he obtain mercy from him on that day. You know very well how much he ministered at Ephesus.
Paul talks about two men Phygelus and Hermogenes who played him. Then he talks about a brother named Onesiphorus who refreshed him while he was in jail. Onesiphorus search for him throughout Rome until he found him so that he could bring aid and comfort to Paul. Notice what Paul prays for him. Paul’s prayers coincide with the passage in Matthew 25 He says “may the Lord grant that he obtain mercy from him on that day” In this passage you have three people who claimed to be saved: Phygelus, Hermogenes, and Onesiphorus only one bore Christian Fruit. You will notice Paul did not pray God’s grace on the other two.
Now tell me our Christian Charity does not have Eternal Value.
Christian Charity is a strong proof of true Salvation. Show me a person who is not affected by the pain, and suffering of others and I will show you someone who does not know the Lord.
Keion Henderson stated emphatically after saying this quote “Read your bible!” as if to say the bible backs me up well lets take a look at that:
Proverbs 19:17 CSB
17 Kindness to the poor is a loan to the Lord, and he will give a reward to the lender.
Proverbs 28:27 CSB
27 The one who gives to the poor will not be in need, but one who turns his eyes away will receive many curses.
Matthew 6:1–4 CSB
1 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward with your Father in heaven. 2 So whenever you give to the poor, don’t sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be applauded by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward. 3 But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Acts 20:35 CSB
35 In every way I’ve shown you that it is necessary to help the weak by laboring like this and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
1 Timothy 6:17–19 CSB
17 Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share, 19 storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of what is truly life.
Hebrews 13:16 CSB
16 Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.

Review
Quote from Video “Charity does not bring wealth only the tithe”
It is important when you watch online sermons’ or listen to podcast, that you listen carefully to find out the thesis of what a person is purporting.
Where are they going? What are they really trying to say? What is their agenda? And does this agenda contradict the agenda of Christ.
The agenda for the church is spelled out in two Commandments and one Commission.
The Great commandments Matthew 22:37-39
The Great Commission Matthew 28:18–20
This judgement called the Judgement of the nations or the sheep and goats judgement are the people who have come through the great tribulation.
Pre-Trib, Mid-Trib and Post-Trib. There will be people who survive the Apocalypse. These are the people standing in front of the throne directly following the Second Coming of Christ.
Jesus seperates the people from one another calling one set “Sheep and the other Goats”
Two weeks ago we talked about the “Sheep” These are the one who followed the Shepherds voice, and gave sustenance to the other sheep in need. They were ushered into the kingdom of God during this judgement. The other group are the “Goats” who we will be talking about today.
Matthew 25:41–46 CSB
41 “Then he will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!
You ever wonder why the Sheep and Goats metaphor is often used to describe the difference between believers and unbelievers?
There are biological difference between the two, and diet differences between the two, but the most compelling is the social structure through which they function.
Social structure: Sheep follow their shepherd and trust them to lead them to food, water, and safety. They can be rebellious but the will usually get behind the shepherd. Goats don't follow anyone, and the goat herder follows behind because they will not follow him from the front. So he watches them from behind.
Jesus was strategic when he used this metaphor all those who listened would understand the usages of these animals to describe the nature of Unbelievers in contrast to Believers. Notice what he tells “the goats”
Matthew 25:41 CSB
41 “Then he will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!
Jesus Pronounces Judgement
(EXP)(41) The King(Jesus) pronounces judgement. He says Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. Saints this is sobering. To live your life come to the end of it and hear this is a horrible reality.
Jesus tells them why
(42) Although this not a poetry book like Psalm, Proverbs or Job Jesus uses Hebrew parallelism to make his point. What he employs is antithetical parallelism. This when the writer says to parallel statements that at diametrically opposite of one another. in Matthew 25:35-36 he says
Explanation to the Righteous he tells them the reason why they have been given access to his kingdom. Essentially “you took care of me” in the form of your righteous acts towards my people.
Then in Matthew 25:42-43 he says
Matthew 25:42–43 CSB
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger and you didn’t take me in; I was naked and you didn’t clothe me, sick and in prison and you didn’t take care of me.’
(42-43) I was hungry, thirsty, lost, naked, sick and in prison and you did nothing to ministered to my needs. Your negligence as it pertains to the needs of people gave strong evidence you do not know me. You refuse to be my hands, feet and mouth. Now listen to their response in Matthew 25:44
Matthew 25:44 CSB
44 “Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help you?’
Notice how they referred to Jesus. They called him “Lord” the word Kyrios is used. Sometimes this word is used generally to talk to a person with authority over you. Or is it used in more formal sense to talk to someone who you believe to be Divinity. In John 20:27-28 Thomas says.
John 20:27–28 CSB
27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Don’t be faithless, but believe.” 28 Thomas responded to him, “My Lord and my God!”
(27-28) Doubting Thomas I got to touch him before I believe so Jesus lets him touch the wounds. After touching Jesus Thomas says “My Lord and my God!” kyrios is the word used in this text. It is the formal usages it goes beyond just Master, or Authority. He is calling him Master of All. Lord God. Back in Matthew 25:44
Matthew 25:44 CSB
44 “Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help you?’
(44) I am concluding “Lord” is being used formally. I believe based on the context clues of the verse these are people who were members of a local church. These are folks who made a profession of faith and got baptized. These are folks who are walking among us everyday and serving next to us. Back in Matthew 25:32
Matthew 25:32 CSB
32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
(32) Notice Jesus phraseology. He says “He will separate them one from another” Very interesting Jesus is talking about them as a collective group that needs to be separated. Paul uses the metaphor of wheat and tares in the churches in Corinthians. Baby Goats look close enough to Baby Sheep that if a shepherd is tending to 100s of sheep Goat’s could congregate among sheep undetected.
(44) I am making the argument based on these statements this judgement is a group of true believers and false believers. Chief among them are False teachers who are fully convinced of their own holiness and righteousness. Notice what else they say in Matthew 25:44-45
Matthew 25:44–45 CSB
44 “Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help you?’ 45 “Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
(44-45) They ask Jesus a question. When did we see you hungry, thirsty, lost, destitute, sick, or locked up? then Jesus answers them “Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me?” Jesus says when you take care of my children, you are taking care of me. This is why churches have helps ministries and do mission. It is our way or reaching believers and lost with the hands, feet, eyes and mouth of Jesus.
I do want to bring balance to this teaching.

First Point:

There are four types of givers in the church:
Blind Givers-They don’t ask any question and will give to any need without regard to the situation. They argue it’s the person responsibility if they are lying or deceiving you. This giver has an eternal perspective on giving.
Skeptical Givers-They assume dishonesty or deception of every need and this keeps them giving to anything. They will always talk themselves out of giving because they believe people are taking advantage of folks with resources
Discerning Giver-This giver has an open ears to peoples pain. Before just giving they seek God’s face and direction this can happen in seconds or it can happen over days. This giver is open and willing, but they want to make sure God is in it. This giver has an eternal perspective on giving.
The Discerning Giver is the most consistent with Scripture.
God is not calling you to give in every situation the arises in your life. Sometimes God just wants you to pray instead of giving. That is where discernment comes in.
Oblivious Giver-They do not hear the call. They are never sacrificial. They will never give to a point of their personal situation is affected. This who James talks about in James 2:14-17
James 2:14–17 CSB
14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Can such faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed,” but you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way faith, if it does not have works, is dead by itself.

Second Point:

The way Matthew 25 reads it seems as if Jesus is welcoming folks into his kingdom based on what they give. This is a wrong way of understanding this text. Giving to the poor, and philanthropy is not the basis for your redemption. It is a part of the proof of your redemption.
Ephesians 2:8–9 CSB
8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— 9 not from works, so that no one can boast.
Salvation is by the grace of God not on the basis of giving.
Jesus is not dealing with the heart work of salvation in this Judgement he is dealing with the fruit of salvation in this judgement.
The Work of Salvation is both invisible and visible, and Jesus is dealing with the visible part of it in this text.
Conclusion:
What is Jesus truly saying in this text?
He is saying someone who truly has the spirit of God dwelling inside of them will be compelled to meet needs.
Christian are attuned to the needs of others. They are acutely aware of human suffering and see themselves as agents of the Love of Christ.
When Pastor Keion Henderson says “Helping the poor is of no value to you” he is saying ignore the HS when the natural conviction comes to help in anyway necessary to someone in need. His teaching is directly opposite of what the word of God says.
When a Pastor teaches emphatically without any chaser something that is directly in contradiction to the Word of God he most likely “a Goat” traveling among the Sheep.
I will end with this. During Pastor Henderson Diatribe he quoted Matthew 26:11 the way he quoted out of context seem to infer the poor were an afterthought in the mind of Christ. Not worth your attention or focus. It is important that you review the story and context to when Jesus said this statement.
Matthew 26:11 CSB
11 You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.
Explain the story.
(8) The disciples were indignant. They saw what this woman did as a waste. When a person head is anointed a large amount of the oil falls to the ground, so the disciples felt this perfume could have been used better by selling it then giving the proceeds to feed the poor.
The amount of expensive oil this woman anointed Jesus was about a year’s wages. So take what you make per/year and think about the sacrifice this woman made. But it also helps you understand the disciples indignation a little more.
