8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
These WORDS are part of the sacred Scriptures that Jesus start His first sermon off with.
In writing an author usually starts His with a THESIS statement a statement that emphasis and clarifies what purpose of what is about to shared.
Jesus wants His disciples and others to have a REVELATION of what it looks to be blessed
BLESSED= HAPPY, EMPOWERED to have good success, endowed with favor from God and man, the have a life meaning , purpose, direction, and hope.
As we explore this sixth Beatitude, I pray that you will have revelation that will help cleanse our hearts and open our eyes to see God.
What is a pure heart?
The Greek word for “pure” in Matthew 5:8 is katharos. It means to be “clean, blameless, unstained from guilt.” Interestingly, the word can refer specifically to that which is purified by fire or by pruning.
John the Baptist told people that Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11). Mat 3: 11
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Malachi speaks of the Messiah as being like a “refiner’s fire” (Malachi 3:2). Mal3:2
2 But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:
Jesus refers to believers as being the branches and to Himself as being the vine (John 15:1-17). For a vine to produce fruit, it must be pruned. John 15: 1-3
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Those who are truly “pure,” then, are those who have been declared innocent because of the work of Jesus and who are being sanctified by His refining fire and His pruning.
3 signs of pure heart
Being pure in heart involves having a singleness of heart toward God. A pure heart has no hypocrisy, no guile, no hidden motives.
The pure heart is marked by transparency and an uncompromising desire to please God in all things.
It is more than an external purity of behavior; it is an internal purity of soul.
Example of Nathaniel John 1 :47-51
John 1:47–51 (KJV 1900)
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! 48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. 50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. 51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
Example of an unpure heart: scribe and Pharisee Matt 15:8-9
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
What is meant by heart
The Greek word for “heart” in Matthew 5:8 is kardeeah. This can be applied to the physical heart. But it also refers to the spiritual center of life. It is where thoughts, desires, sense of purpose, will, understanding, and character reside. So, to be pure in heart means to be blameless in who we actually are.
The only way we can be truly pure in heart is to give our lives to Jesus and ask Him to do the cleansing work. Psalm 51:10 says, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” God is the one who makes our hearts pure – by the sacrifice of His Son and through His sanctifying work in our lives (see also 1 John 3:1-3).
What does it mean to see God
It has a two fold meaning
In the end times there will be a new heaven and new earth; there shall be no more curse and all God’s servants will see God
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: 4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
The other day I .. “ I see you.”
According to Urban Dictionary, it is usually used as a way of recognizing someone’s recent accomplishment; for example, congratulating a friend who has progressed in her career (“Ok, miss Vice President, I see you!”) or even acknowledging a friend who put together an outfit really well (“Love those shoes. I see you!”).
While we are this earth..
It is clear from other places in the Bible that it does not mean we will physically see God face to face. The Lord told Moses, "man shall not see me and live" (Exodus 33:20). John 1:18 adds, "No one has ever seen God." Instead, we will be able to "see" in the sense of understanding God better.
The principles of the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 each has to do with being closer to God or satisfied in God. When we are pure in heart, we will be closer to God than if we live impure lives.
Jesus also notes that those who are pure in heart are "blessed." This Greek word can be translated "happy" and simply refers to a positive or joyful state of being. Psalm 73:1 adds, "Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart."
We will certainly experience a greater joy in our lives when we have confessed our sins, draw near to God, and seek to live His way rather than ours.
We will "see God" in the sense that we can more clearly understand His plans for our lives and walk in a way that pleases Him and helps others.
We will see his will, ways, and plan as we journey om this earth.
