MESSAGE TITLE: INTO THE FIRE

CONTEXT of ACTS 19:

Paul was on a missionary journey in Ephesus (2 years)

Preached the word & many miriacles occured

Acts 19:13–20(NLT)

“13 A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!” 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. 15 But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” 16 Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered. 17 The story of what happened spread quickly all through Ephesus, to Jews and Greeks alike. A solemn fear descended on the city, and the name of the Lord Jesus was greatly honored. 18 Many who became believers confessed their sinful practices. 19 A number of them who had been practicing sorcery brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars. 20 So the message about the Lord spread widely and had a powerful effect.”

Ephesus was widley known for its trade of magic

Magic was widespread but ephesus was regarded as its center.

Magical exorcists often invoked the names of higher spirits to cast out lower ones. According to magical theory, exorcists could coerce a deity or spirit to do their will by invoking its name.

Many exorcist or magicians would invoke the name of higher spirits to cast out lower ones. This was a form of magical manipulation.

They thought Paul was a fellow magician but soon realize that he is a servant of God

PROBLEM #1:

The first step of our calling and cooroperation with God is being willing to throw our sins into the fire...

IMPACT:

You miss out on becoming more like Jesus

PROBLEM #2:

You don’t know truth and are walking blindly in the ways of the world

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

IMPACT:

You are blind and don’t know where you are going. This leads to confusion....

SOLUTION:

POINT #1 - BE WILLING TO GO ALL IN WITH GOD BY THROWING YOUR SINS INTO THE FIRE. HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN.
