Walking with Jesus

I like walking.

But I like hiking more.

Hiking is like walking

but more fun.

I love hiking.

I’m going to

tell you a story

about hiking.

First,

read bible verse.

John 8:12 ESV

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus wants us

to walk.

But not to just walk

to walk in the light.

He says we should

not walk in darkness.

One day,

early 20’s.

decided to go hiking.

We lived near Yosemite.

Iconic hiking.

Top of half dome.

Didn’t remember

how far it was.

Got a late start.

Finally began,

afternoon.

We were young,

good health.

Made it to the top.

Summer,

sun sets around 8:30.

Got to the top around 6:30.

should have

turned around quickly.

We thought,

took time getting up.

but we will go down

much faster.

Left the top

only about 1 hour before sunset...

Lot’s of steep steps

can’t move really fast.

By 9pm

completely pitch black.

We couldn’t see the trail.

We were completely

unprepared for this.

Nobody brought

flashlight

compass

extra food

extra water

sweaters...

We had phones.

Flashlight on phone.

Cheap flip phones.

lasted 20 mins.

Now phone is dead...

I learned a lesson.

To go walking

you need light.

Bible says:

Psalm 119:105 (ESV)

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

To talk with Jesus

we need light.

Bible calls

two things light.

This verse:

Your Word.... lamp to my path.

What give light?

God’s word

The Bible.

Other verse I read:

John 8:12 ESV

What is light in this verse?

Jesus!

If you have Jesus

If you have his word.

You have light!

If you are walking with Jesus

you won’t be in darkness.

About 5 miles left

complete darkness

phone dead.

We did everything wrong.

started late

no flashlight

separated group.

Few spots,

coming down mountain

Finally get back to car

no keys

Waited another hour

for rest of group.

2 am.

Thankfully we

were all okay.

Good example

what not to do.

Sometimes easy

make this mistake in life.

Jesus is light.

Bible is light.

If you are

“Walking with Jesus”

you are

walking in the light.

Ephesians 5:8–9 ESV

for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),

What happens

when you walk with Jesus?

What happens when you

“walk as children of light?”

You do things that

are good and right and true...

Walking with Jesus means:

living like Jesus

Walking in the light means

living the way the Bible teaches.

How do we do that?

Spend time with Jesus

every day!

Study the Bible.

So it can be

a light to your path.
