Key verse: v.7
56 verses; 1,117 words
Grade level: 3.6
Outline:
I. Jesus is Condemned by the Judge. Vs. 1-25
II. Jesus is Crucified by the Jews. Vs. 26-49
III. Jesus is Claimed by Joseph. Vs. 50-56
Here we will find the PARTS surrounding the preparation for the greatest day in the history of the world:

I. Person. vs. 50–51

His acclaim. v.50
50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:
Oh that we could have others say this about us.
Oh but we can have that!
His account. v.51
51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
Paradox: He did not agree with putting Christ to death.
He knew Jesus had to die for our sins. It was Whom he was waiting for.

II. Place. v. 52

The access to Pilate. v.52a
52 This man went unto Pilate,
His testimony and record was such that he could get an audience with the governor.
Is that easy or hard to do?
The appeal to Pilate. v.52b
and begged the body of Jesus.
This is what he desired.
This is where God used him.

III. Poverty. v. 53

It was borrowed. v.53a
53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone,
Christ did not need a permanent tomb.
Christ was coming out the first day of the week.
It was best. v.53b
wherein never man before was laid.
From the virgin womb to the virgin tomb!

IV. Plans. vs. 54–56

They recognized. vs.54-55
This was a holiday Sabbath. v.54
54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
These women were helpers, but would soon be believers. v.55
55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
They rested. v.56
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Note they were ready before they rested.
Notice they rested and was ready.

Conclusion:

How do you prepare for the greatest day ever?
Do you read the Bible?
Do you pray?
Do you make ready your clothing?
Do you get God’s tithe ready?
Do you invite others to come with you?
