From Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 30 January 1787

I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. Unsuccesful rebellions indeed generally establish the incroachments on the rights of the people which have produced them.
. It prevents the degeneracy of government, and nourishes a general attention to the public affairs.

While political rebellion is be a good thing that can pushes back on the sinful nature of man, any rebellion agains God leads to ruin.

Rebellion against God’s revealed will begins with discontentment, leads to disobedience, and ultimately results in delusion.

1. Living a life of discontentment is saying that you have a better plan for your life than God.

Genesis 11:1–2 “1 The whole earth had the same language and vocabulary. 2 As people migrated from the east, they found a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there.”
We cannot allow are satisfaction with life be based upon our current circumstances. But We must have our thoughts and emotions grounded upon the truth of CHirest.
1 Timothy 6:6–8 “6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out. 8 If we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.”
2 Corinthians 12:9–10 “9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. 10 So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Solution to satisfy your discontentment

Genesis 10:8–10 “8 Cush fathered Nimrod, who began to be powerful in the land. 9 He was a powerful hunter in the sight of the Lord. That is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a powerful hunter in the sight of the Lord.” 10 His kingdom started with Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.”

Habakkuk 3:17–19 “17 Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though the flocks disappear from the pen and there are no herds in the stalls, 18 yet I will celebrate in the Lord; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation! 19 The Lord my Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights! For the choir director: on stringed instruments.”

2. Following your plan means you are living in disobedience to the plan God has revealed to you through His Word.

Genesis 11:3–4 “3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make oven-fired bricks.” (They used brick for stone and asphalt for mortar.) 4 And they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky. Let’s make a name for ourselves; otherwise, we will be scattered throughout the earth.””
Be fruitful and multiply
Genesis 1:28 “28 God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.””
Genesis 9:1 “1 God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.”
, Genesis 9:7 “7 But you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out over the earth and multiply on it.””
God, however, disapproved of their plans and judged the people by confusing their language in order to scatter them (Gen 11:6–8).

3. You live a life of delusion trying to satisfy your constantly shifting emotions and expect others to be in agreement with you.

Genesis 11:4 “4 And they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky. Let’s make a name for ourselves; otherwise, we will be scattered throughout the earth.””

Tower of Babel
This was a place of Worship
The “Tower of Babel” was an ancient construction called a ziggurat—a step-pyramid building with a shrine at the top reserved for a divine being.
In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word (מִגְדָּל, migdal) translated “tower” (Gen 11:4) refers to elevated structures designed for protection (Judg 9:51; 2 Kgs 9:17; 2 Chr 14:7).

Babylon is the central focus on all false religions
The implied monotheism of Genesis 1 is one example of the persistent critique of Near Eastern theology that runs throughout Genesis 1–11 culminating in its trenchant attack on the religious pretensions of Babylon and its tower.

The Tower of Babylon
The tower of Babylon stands as a monument to man’s impotence before his creator, and the multiplicity of human languages is a reminder of divine retribution on human pride.

In the Bible, “Babylon” is more than a city or an empire; it represents a system. It is God’s name for Satan’s system in this world.
