Recap
Recap
In Trial:
1) Grow their faith.
2) Grow their love.
3) help them endure.
Today:
To this end…
prayers for the details of life vs prayers for the big things.
both important.. but very different.
we all lean to pray more for one than the other.
Today is the big things
Gods highest purposes are accomplished through prayers.
What are we really wanting God to do in their life?
This passage is incredible.
Honestly of all the passages I have preached in a while this is one that I would recommend we put to memory.
The aim of discipleship. The aim of the Christian faith.
A Target (Last week was three things this week is very much the things)
Read/Pray
Read/Pray
To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Big Idea: to this end we pray for those in trial.
Big Idea: to this end we pray for those in trial.
1) Sanctification:
1) Sanctification:
God may make you worthy of your calling
God may make you worthy of your calling
Sanctifying work
2 Thessalonians 2:13–14 (ESV)
But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, bqaecause God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
calling (Gods Plan)
Calling is not always glamorous
brief recap of Ephesians series
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,
You are made worthy
Transition: May we pray that God does this in our hearts and the same in other believers.
2) Good Works
2) Good Works
Fulfill every resolve for Good
Fulfill every resolve for Good
To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power,
Fullfill = fully filled.
Fulfilled = to carry out.
Complete goodness.
We need God to do this.
Our intentions in the flesh are not always to accomplish true good but whatever we determine to be good for us.
Consumed with Good
Good works = ultimate good is not left in your head
Labor of love
Transition: may we pray that God alters our desires to do ultimate good!
3) Spirit filled
3) Spirit filled
Work of faith by his power
Work of faith by his power
vs work of faith without power
Faith is only as valid as its object. You could have tremendous faith in very thin ice and drown.… You could have very little faith in very thick ice and be perfectly secure.

A quality of faith that reflects Jesus is working.
spirit filled life
seeing God work miracles in our midst.
I am convinced now more than ever God is doing things and we are reluctant to give him credit.
To what end… (so that)
To what end… (so that)
so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
