Genesis 1:1–2 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
In the beginning, GOD - Who is our God? The first 4 words of the Bible give us the first glimpse of who God is. First, God is ETERNAL! He has no beginning and no end. In the beginning of our Time line, God was already here. He created not just the universe and everything we see, He created time itself, so God is not restricted by time.
Just think if God created a chair, is God restricted by that chair? No, he can sit in it when he wants but he can get up when he wants too.
God created Earth, is He stuck on the earth He created? No, He comes and goes as he pleases.
It’s the same with time, God created it, therefore, He can enter our time line when He wants but he is not restricted by what He created.
Genesis 1:3–5 KJV 1900
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
As we see God begin to create we will notice over and over the only thing He needs is His voice. This teaches us something about who our God is, He is ALL POWERFUL. God can and will do anything He desires. Our God is in perfect control over all creation.
Another thing that will be repeated over and over is “there was evening, and there was morning. It was day _” God as he created time, also defined for us what a day is. The Bible says from the evening to the morning is 1 day. Some christians try to say God could have used millions or billions of years to create. But that does not line up with what the Bible says. The Bible says it took 6 days and each day was defined by God as having one evening (sunset) and one morning (sunrise).
Genesis 1:6–11 KJV 1900
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. 9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
God told the land to bring plant and each plant would produce seeds that would allow that plant to continue producing more of the exact same plant.
This also goes against the modern teaching that plants just morphed over time from one plant to another. God said each plant would only produce another plant of the same kind! We have 100 different types of apples, and you can cross those apples with each there but they are still apples. You cant cross an apple and an orange those are different kinds of plants.
Genesis 1:12–19 KJV 1900
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day. 14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
God used the stars, sun, moon and presumably the other planets that sometimes look like stars to the eye, to help us mark time. To track hours, days, months and years.
Genesis 1:20–23 KJV 1900
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
God created sea creatures and birds. God used the same term when he said let them reproduce after their own Kind as He did about plants. Each type of animal was designed to reproduce the same kind of animal. A bird has never given birth to a frog or any other animal except a bird.
Anyone who says otherwise is not only denying the truth of science that we see everywhere, they are denying the very word of God.
Genesis 1:24–26 KJV 1900
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Again, just like plants, birds and sea creatures, all land animals are designed to produce more of the same kind. God created everything just as he wanted and put everything in a specific order to cary on with that same design.
Genesis 1:27 KJV 1900
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
When God created mankind, he did something special. He did something different than any other creature. He created us in HIS IMAGE. This is not talking about the physical body, this is talking about our spirit! God gave us something that until man was created only God and his angels had, spirit.
You were created above the animals, you were created by God, to have a spirit that would live on even after our physical bodies do not. You were created for a higher purpose than any other creature God created!
Your purpose was to have a relationship with God and to be his representative on this earth. We were created to cary out the will of God on this earth. How we do that will be talked about when we get to Chapters 2 and 3.
Genesis 1:28 KJV 1900
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
God gave us the earth for us to rule over. We are to have control over all the animals and plants and look after it. Originally, before sin, we were God’s Gardners over his beautiful and perfect creation.
Genesis 1:29–31 KJV 1900
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
When God completed creation after 6, 24 hour days, God saw that it was good, perfect even!
Genesis 2:1–3 KJV 1900
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
God set the seventh day apart, thats what holy means. The day is set apart to be different. This is where we get the teaching of the Sabbath day. God told Mosses that just as He rested on the seventh day, we also should set that day aside to not work, but we should rest and remember God.
Remember God’s love, remember what He has done for us. Use this time to rejoice and be reminded of who our God is.
Today we have learned that God is
Eternal - No beginning and no end, not restricted buy time because He created time.
All Powerful - What God says, will happen and He holds all the power to make sure it does.
The creator of all things - Nothing was created apart from the words God spoke.
