HOMILY

We are gathered here today to witness the holy unity between Mr. Wally and Ms. Merasol. Love is a beautiful thing. You hear about it in stories, movies, books—pretty much everywhere. But many people seem to have different definitions of love. Some say that love is a verb or a noun. Some say that love is caring for someone you don’t like. Some even say that love is taking out the trash in the late hours of the night. But what is love?

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

This text shows us what love is. It shows us that love isn’t just some warm feeling that we get in our stomachs. It’s not some fantasy that some movies make it out to be. Instead, it is a transformative power that can soften the hardest of hearts. The Bible goes even further to describe what love is in…

8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This text brings an even deeper meaning to what love is. It tells us that God Himself IS love. And If you switch the word “love” with “God” in 1 Corinthians 13. You’ll learn some powerful truths about God. Abridged Version

This is the God whom we serve. Our God is mighty, powerful, all-knowing, and steadfast in His love. Isn’t that powerful to know? You’re probably thinking, “So what does this have to do with marriage?” It’s simple: The love that He shows us every single day is the same love we are to show to our spouses—every single day. So through your marriage, through every high and every low, always protect, always hope, always persevere, and know that God never fails.

By the power invested in me as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I now declare you AGAIN Husband and wife. You May now kiss the bride.
