Preservation and restoration (Lessons 34-35) 11/26/24
Introduction:
After warnings through Moses, through Joshua even before entering the Land, it was foretold of captivity as a result of apostasy. Yes, the people were exiled from their land.
The Prophets talked of the impending doom and national catastrophe: It came to pass
Aim:
To realize the return of a remnant, the fulfilled prophesy.
To summarize the nation-land aspect of God’s promise to Abraham and his seed.
Outline:
The prophesy about Babylon’s rule, Judah’s exile was to be seventy years (Jer25:8-12)
The prophesy about the return of the remnant would be after the seventy years (Jer29:10-14, Dan9:1-2)
Pulling from Jeremiah you can see, the Lord said I will visit you.
I will perform My good Word toward you, bringing you back to this place
I will be found in you.
I will turn again your captivity
I will gather you from all the places I have driven you.
I will bring you again unto the place where I caused you to be carried away captive.
Please note down these other scriptures too (Deut30:3-4; Jer29:14)
Jehovah promised a return from exile
It would only be a remnant
The remnant would return after the seventy years.
The return took place starting with the Cyrus decree (536B.C.) and all of God’s promises about the “Nation-land” have taken place.
Prophesy Fulfilled: A remnant returned
You can see it in Ezra’s record (Ezr9:13-15)
First return (536B.C.) (Ezr1:1-3, 11)
Second return (458B.C.) (Ezr7:1-9)
Some additional things to take note of.
Moses had stated previously the condition of the return - repentance
Isaiah and others prophesied that it would only be a remnant.
Jeremiah said it would be after seventy years
Ezra declared that the remnant did return, fulfilling the prophesy (Ezr6:16-18)
You can read in Nehemiah’s record (Neh1:3, 8:10)
Haggai’s record (Hag1:2-3, 12-14)
Conclusion:
God’s promise concerning the nation-land promise has been fulfilled. Contrary to what some believe, truth states it was fulfilled.
The promise to restore a penitent remnant after the apostasy has taken place.
God has nothing more of a carnal nature (Physical nature) for the Jew, for redemption of sin is through Jesus Christ; the promised spiritual seed. He is God’s plan, God’s way for sinful man to be reconciled to Holy God.
The Abrahamic Promise: The spiritual seed, Pt. I
Introduction:
The nation-land aspect of God’s promise to Abraham has been fulfilled.
We have looked at the physical element of the promise has been fulfilled
Aim:
To start a journey at looking at the Spiritual-Seed to is manifestation and fulfillment.
To look at, to review God’s purpose and promise as seen the the following following period of History; This morning, the Pre-Abrahamic period.
Outline:
The promise reviewed.
God has an eternal purpose, plan, done with foreknowledge and it was predetermined. A means of salvation for sinful man. Redemption was purposed (Eph1:3-11)
Second, recall God’s statement in Eden concerning the seed of woman - redemption was pronounced (Gen3:15)
Third, to be reminded of the promise made to Abraham in previous lessons, that redemption for all nations is promised.
Finally, note that this part of the promise, the spiritual seed aspect is defined by God’s statement (Gen12:3, 18:18, 22:18, and Gal3:8) that all nations would be blessed through the spiritual seed.
A simple timeline through the genealogy can be traced from:
Adam - Abraham (seed of woman announced)
From Abraham to Judah through Noah, Isaac, and Jacob (Seed promised and preserved)
From Judah to David (the seed promised of royalty)
From David to the Messiah (spiritual seed promise fulfilled).
So let us look at the pre-Abrahamic period this morning:
Starts with Adam (Gen3:15-21)
God announced his intention that the seed of woman was going to bring about redemption.
It is shown to have set forth in the fourth generation
He (seed of woman) shall crusty they head (serpent) Gen3:15-16)
We can see that God made a coat of skins as a type to cover sins of man (Gen3:21)
It was just a type and you can learn more by reading (Heb9:11-10:10)
And in that you can notice animal blood cannot take away sin, only the blood of Jesus can, in God’s eternal sacrifice (Jn1:29; 1Jn2:2, 4:10)
Then there is Noah (Gen6:1-9:7)
The keeping of righteous Noah and his family, the promised seed was protected and from that all nations would be blessed.
Without the protection and preservation of the seed, No one could be saved, redeemed from the consequences of sin and death (Heb9:39-40)
The genealogy of Gen11 is recorded to show us of Abraham’s descent from Noah’s son Shem. That Abraham received the covenant of promise that in they seed all nations shall be blessed.
Conclusion:
The emphasis of the history from creation to the flood, is one of redemption (Gen1-11)
The emphasis shows the preservation of the spiritual seed-line through Noah, to Shem at this point.
