Psalm 92 A word of praise

The Lord shows His faithfulness

Psalm 92:title–7 “ A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath Day. 1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; 2 To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night, 3 On an instrument of ten strings, On the lute, And on the harp, With harmonious sound. 4 For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands. 5 O Lord, how great are Your works! Your thoughts are very deep. 6 A senseless man does not know, Nor does a fool understand this. 7 When the wicked spring up like grass, And when all the workers of iniquity flourish, It is that they may be destroyed forever.”
I like that they use instruments to worship the Lord. Should we sing more of folks being destroyed forever.
Psalm 92:8–9 “ But You, Lord, are on high forevermore. 9 For behold, Your enemies, O Lord, For behold, Your enemies shall perish; All the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.”
He will judge. John 5:27 “ and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.”
Psalm 92:10–11 “ But my horn (strength) You have exalted like a wild ox; (remember when felt unbeatable) I have been anointed with fresh oil. (refreshed) 11 My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies; My ears hear my desire on the wicked Who rise up against me.” (I have seen and heard the victory)
When even one of us rises up knowing who He is and who we are in Him, the world around us can be changed.
Psalm 92:12–15 “ The righteous (in christ) shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, 15 To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”
Fruitfulness, vitality, when we are caught in Him, there is nothing but truth and holiness in Him.

The Lord Reigns

Psalm 93:1–5 “ The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. 3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves. 4 The Lord on high is mightier Than the noise of many waters, Than the mighty waves of the sea. 5 Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever.”
Everything he names are things that men cant control, not fully like we think. God is above it all. Much of this speaks to what is established but it also speaks of what is to come. In Psalm 96:10 “ Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns; The world also is firmly established, It shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.”” this is pointing to Messiah, this is about the fact that Jesus is Lord and complete.
In heaven itself, these beings of incredible power and force cry out, the greatest of saints cries out, Revelation 19:6 “ And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!”
O Lord My God - a confession and submission. My Lord. My king. My God, I cannot save, He must.

Psalm 94 Singing in the Suffering

The psalm reflects a time when wicked enemies greatly oppressed the helpless people of the Lord (vv. 5–6). An alliance of wicked leaders had banded together against the righteous (v. 21). Injustice was dominant, a setting that could be in preexilic times (cf. Isaiah 1; Micah 3) or in postexilic times (cf. Malachi 3). The Midrash Tehillim connected Psalm 94 with the destruction of the temple, with the Levites actually singing the text of v. 23 when the Babylonians torched the temple, a sad calamity that recurred when the Second Temple was later destroyed by the Romans.
Psalm 94:1–6 “ O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs— O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth! 2 Rise up, O Judge of the earth; Render punishment to the proud. 3 Lord, how long will the wicked, How long will the wicked triumph? 4 They utter speech, and speak insolent things; All the workers of iniquity boast in themselves. 5 They break in pieces Your people, O Lord, And afflict Your heritage. 6 They slay the widow and the stranger, And murder the fatherless.”
In Jeremiah, the prophet spoke of the perfect vengeance of God for what they had done - Jeremiah 46:10 “ For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts, A day of vengeance, That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries. The sword shall devour; It shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood; For the Lord God of hosts has a sacrifice In the north country by the River Euphrates.”
Psalm 94:7–11 “ Yet they say, “The Lord does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob understand.” 8 Understand, you senseless among the people; And you fools, when will you be wise? 9 He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see? 10 He who instructs the nations, shall He not correct, He who teaches man knowledge? 11 The Lord knows the thoughts of man, That they are futile.”
When it seems as though God isn't responding like the idols without eyes/ears, God reminds them he spoke humanity into existence is fully aware of all thats happening.
We have the Word, we have testimony. Do we need to be coddled every moment?
If He is and always actively teaching He is through the law and prophets! The word is Hebrews 4:12 “ For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
We see through His word that he knows the heart of man. He doesn't just see you, He sees the real you.
Psalm 94:12–16 “ Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O Lord, And teach out of Your law, 13 That You may give him rest from the days of adversity, Until the pit is dug for the wicked. 14 For the Lord will not cast off His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance. 15 But judgment will return to righteousness, And all the upright in heart will follow it. 16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?”
God so wants to keep you from the forever pit, that He teaches, and instructs so that you can have learn better, be better, in Him, through his guidance.
Want to know if you’re his? The upright heart follows Christ even when we stumble, He stands for you! When he chastens us, it is because he cares for us - Deuteronomy 8:5 “ You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you.”
Psalm 94:17–23 “ Unless the Lord had been my help, My soul would soon have settled in silence. 18 If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy (unfailing love, loyal love), O Lord, will hold me up. 19 In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. (comforts, plural)
Oh Lord my God, praise you! Praise you!
20 Shall the throne of iniquity, (god of this world, leaders in sin) which devises evil by law, Have fellowship with You? 21 They gather together against the life of the righteous, And condemn innocent blood. 22 But the Lord has been my defense, And my God the rock of my refuge. 23 He has brought on them their own iniquity, And shall cut them off in their own wickedness; The Lord our God shall cut them off.”
Who’s God? The Lord our God! Who’s God? Psalm 89:14 “ Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.”
Psalm 94:22 “ But the Lord has been my defense, And my God the rock of my refuge.”
We know the Lord is our savior and deliverer, the only one we can truly trust - not even ourselves. This your god is your rock, your place to run. The one who loves you.
Here is the thing, the Lord doesn't owe us or need us, he loves us. And much of what see is God is due our worship, our praise, our obedience because of what He has done, is doing, will do. We can see him guiding the world, moving the nations slowly, to fulfill the Word of the Lord continuing to bring the Gospel to all.
Here is the Gospel. We are sinners, lost from even one sin, commited to destruction no matter how “good” we are. We severed any chance of a relationship with the Father. Jesus, the Word made flesh, lived a perfect life, then died on the cross for our sins, covering us completely if we would receive the gift he offered. He then justified us, by his raising from the dead which also guarantees what he said was true, and that we would be as He is!
