“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Who knows this verse?
What is it talking about?
What does it mean that God loved the world? Earth?
What does it mean that God gave His Son?
Why did God have to give His Son?
What does it mean to believe in Jesus?
You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
What does it mean that believers in Jesus will not perish? Will they not die?
What does that mean for people who do not believe in Jesus?
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What is eternal life?

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
What does it mean to condemn?
Judge, punish, condemn to jail
So why did God send Jesus into the world?
So what is John saying Here?

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
What does it mean that people who do not believe in Jesus are already condemned?
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins
We’re already dead
Crazy to think about that all of our friends who are not walking with Jesus are spiritually dead
Maybe you remember what that is like
Or maybe you still haven’t really experienced spiritual life because you haven’t really put your faith in Jesus yet or you believe He’s there but you don’t have a personal relationship with Him.
And if people who do not believe in Jesus are already condemned is there any other way to get right with God and escape the judgement that we deserve for our sin?

And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
What is the light? Why is Jesus the light?
What is the darkness? Why is sin the darkness?
Why do people choose darkness over the light? Do you/we do this?
Why do we all choose sin over Jesus?
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.
This goes back to what we were talking about with everyone being dead in their sin.
Sin is our addiction. It’s our way to try to become our own God rather than to trust the real God.

But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
This is a really cool verse.
Other translations say, “whoever lives by the truth comes to the light.”
so John is saying “whoever knows the truth and practices it comes to Jesus.”
They walk with Jesus because they love Him more than their sin right?
Does believing in Jesus and having a relationship with Him mean we will never sin again?
Sanctification
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
So now we have read this whole chunk of Jesus talking. What is His message? What is He saying to us and what is He saying to you personally?
