God still speaks today.
This is, I believe, a fundamental truth we must learn.
God still uses the words of old to help us live in 2024.
Jeremiah gives us a “parable in action”.
The phrase most likely comes form the NIV Application Commentary but when we have this framework it helps to understand the original context.
God is sovereign.
This means he is in control and above all. Our passage makes this point very clear if you ask me.
God as potter, creator, can do what he wants.
He is not beholden to anyone.
God patiently works with humanity.
Like a skilled artist he can shape, re-shape, and do what he wants.
Humans are responsible for our choices.
God’s sovereignty does not negate our responsibility. There has been healthy debate over the years about which one is “more” important.
Our job is to be workable.
God will do what he wants but we must have pliable hearts, minds, and feet.
Trust God and be his clay.
