Acts 19:1–6 KJV 1900
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Things to note:
Vs 1: Found disciples of John the Baptist.
Jesus said that there was none greater than John the Baptist…
Vs. 2: Asks the question, have you recieved the Holy Ghost since you believed.
Much to unpack about that question.
Their is more for you beyond belief.
Belief is access to God.
Also, no one had told them about the Holy Ghost!
Huge problem!!!!
Vs. 3: They had a relationship with God, had even been baptized!
Vs 4: No matter where you are, God has a next step for you!
Vs. 5: Took the next step!
Vs. 6: Paul laid hands on them, they Holy Ghost came on them and they spoke with tongues.
This is one of the most relevant 6 verses of all the bible for TODAY!
What the bible says about salvation:
You must have faith
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV 1900)
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
You must have faith that their is a God and he loves you…
This verse also clues us into the next step.
2. You must believe
John 3:16, John 3:18, John 6:47, Mark 16:16 - all tell us that we must believe.
Heb 11:6 also gives us another clue… there is a reward coming to those who diligently seek hime!
3. Confess with your mouth, believe in your heart, you WILL be saved
Romans 10:9–10 KJV 1900
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Confess and believe you “Shall” or will be saved…
This is a promise of what is coming.
4. Repentance
Luke 5:32 KJV 1900
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9 KJV 1900
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Repentance puts you on a path that if you will stay on that path, will lead you to heaven no matter what happens in your life…
Repentance is the key to it all!
If you stay repentance, humble, you will come to the right decisions.
5. Baptism in in water in Jesus Name
1 Peter 3:21 NLT
21 And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Acts 2:38 KJV 1900
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 22:16 KJV 1900
16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
If you were baptized in the Father, Son and Holy Ghost
NO ONE in scripture was baptized that away…
EVERYONE WAS BAPTIZED IN JESUS NAME.
6. Filled with the Holy Ghost first proven by speaking in tongues.
John 3:5 KJV 1900
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Acts 2:38 KJV 1900
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2,8,9,10, 19 - people not only were baptized in Jesus’ name but filled with the Holy Ghost, speaking in tongues!
Acts 10:44–48 (KJV 1900)
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
7. Holiness
Hebrews 12:14 KJV 1900
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
8. Endure till the end
Matthew 24:13 KJV 1900
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
