The Shepherd in the Shadows (2 - Guilt) (Psalm 107:8-16)

Shadows of Guilt

Prison in this Shadow (10)

Sin is a captive.
Romans 5:18 “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”
Romans 3:19 “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.”
Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.

Provoking in this Shadow (11)

Rebelled - one who willfully violates a law (Saul) (rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft)
Contemned - rejected, neglected, or despised.

Pit in this Shadow (12)

“They fell down”
The pit of hell.

Problem in this Shadow (12b)

“There was none to help.”
The prison too barred, and the provoking too bad, and the pit too big for anyone to get out of the shadow of guilt.

Shepherd in the Guilt

Proclaiming to the Shepherd (13)

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Pulling From the Shepherd (14a)

“He brought them out”
Psalm 40:2 “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”
Isaiah 59:1 “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; Neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:”

Pulverizing by the Shepherd (14b)

“Brake their bands in sunder”
Sunder - to disunite, to divide
WE’RE FREE!
Colossians 2:13–15 “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
“Blotting out” - to wipe out, to erase, to obliterate.
“You ask me why I’m happy so I’ll just tell you why because, my SINS ARE GONE!”
John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
