Graveside Committal for Shirley Mae Scott
Scripture Reading:
Psalm 90:1-2, 12 (ESV)
“Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God… So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
Words of Reflection:
As we stand at the grave today, we are reminded of the brevity of life. None of us are promised tomorrow, and the Bible tells us that it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
These moments call us to reflect on our own lives, on our relationship with God, and on the hope that He offers us in Jesus Christ.
In times like these, we may not have all the answers, but we know the God who does. He has revealed Himself to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, and through His Word.
Christ Himself said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
This invitation is extended to all, and it is our prayer that each person here will come to know the rest and peace that Jesus offers.
Committal:
For as much as it has pleased Almighty God in His wisdom and providence to take from this life our friend and family member, Shirley Mae Scott, we now commit her body to the earth: earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust, in the hope that one day, death itself will be defeated, and all things will be made new.
May Shirley rest in peace.
Prayer:
Almighty God, we thank You for the gift of life and for the memories we have of Shirley.
We bring before You our grief, our questions, and our uncertainties, trusting in Your perfect will.
Lord, You alone know the heart, and we trust You with Shirley’s eternal destiny.
We ask now for Your comfort to be upon all who mourn her passing.
Be our refuge and strength, our ever-present help in times of trouble.
Teach us to number our days and live wisely before You.
May we all seek the grace You offer through Jesus Christ, and may Your peace rule in our hearts today.
In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.
Benediction:
Now may the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
And may the God of all comfort be with you as you go from here. Amen.
Let us depart in peace, remembering the gift of life and the call to walk humbly with our God.
