My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
Despise: to reject (spurn) v. — to reject with contempt.
Discipline: discipline (training) n. — training to improve strength or self-control.
Reproof: rebuke n. — an act or expression of criticism and censure.
God’s word will provide discipline and reproof!
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
Profitable: beneficial adjs. — promoting or enhancing well-being.
Reproof: rebuke n. — an act or expression of criticism and censure.
Censure: the expression of formal disapproval.
Correction: — the act of offering an improvement (according to a standard) to replace a mistake.
Training: instruction upbringing n. — the whole education and instruction of a disciple (both the cultivation of mind and morals); understood as the rearing and education of children.
for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.
God’s discipline is an expression of His delight in us. He corrects us because He loves us deeply and wants us to flourish spiritually. It’s a reminder that discipline is not a sign of rejection but of love and commitment.
that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Complete: fitted out adjs. — furnished or equipped with every necessary component (for a task or purpose).
Equipped:
