Monday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time
EPH 2:1-10
LK 12:13-21
One important lesson we may learn is that everything we have in this life will eventually fade away or come to an end.
No matter how beautiful or good things seem, they are destined to pass. The lovely weather we enjoyed yesterday and those beautiful flowers will only last for a time. Even the most attractive, vibrant person in the world will age, get sick, break down, and die. Everything in this world has an end.
But this truth is not meant to bring us down. Instead, it reminds us to focus on what truly matters—what is “above,” what comes from God. The things of this world are temporary, while the things of God are everlasting. Nature returns to nature, but what is supernatural lasts forever.
The good news is that we are saved by what comes from above, not by what belongs to the earth.
St. Paul reminds us in Ephesians that we are saved by grace through faith, not by our own efforts. This is a beautiful truth: our salvation is a gift from God, grounded in His love and mercy, not something we can earn. We are created for good works, yes, but those works flow from the grace we receive.
Today’s reading reminds us that our true value is not in what we own here on earth but from “above” in the grace of God. Let’s open our hearts to seek the things that last forever.
Let us strive to be rich in the things of heaven by using our gifts to serve others. So that when we stand before our Lord Jesus on that final day, may we not hear the words spoken to the rich man: “You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?”
Instead, may we hear Jesus telling each of us that, “Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”
May God bless us all.
