Being Real Outline

Cubic Zirconium

How about when it comes to people. Are there fake people in the world?

To get you excited about listening to me I could tell you that I used to be on the US Ski Team, that I’ve been on TV multiple times, that I got a full-ride scholarship to play tennis in college, that I’ve been in 48 of the 50 states, and that my oldest son is related to Abraham Lincoln, but…

Transition- I’m starting to make a lot of friends here. But if you’re faking, how can I get to know the real you? If I’m faking, you’ll never learn about who I am.

Bible- Romans 12:3-4

A dear friend of ours just said to his wife of 7 years, “you were never marriage material. I don’t love you. I never loved you.” There is so much at stake in life that we can’t go on faking it. God created us to be who we are not someone else. God created you to be exactly the person that’s sitting in your chair. This dude’s…  We have to be real. We have to be authentic.

I want to give you 3 reasons to be real in your life.

1.      Your reputation is at stake

a.       Jill D. Sadie Hawkins Dance

b.      James 1 If you hear the words of God and you know who you are, but then don’t live that way you’re only fooling yourself. fake people start believing their own lies.

c.       I have the reputation of not being the best person at taking care of pets. Hey, what can I say, my wife and I wanted kids, so we got pets first and we figured we’d work all of the bugs out. Then we’d be great parents.

d.      (maybe Dobson)

e.       Mt. 12:33 a tree is measured by its fruit

f.        Does that mean we have to be perfect? Ralph, the Dog.

g.       Jesus was the only perfect man

h.       So being real is being vulnerable enough to show your true self- faults and all.

2.      God’s reputation is at stake

a.       2 Cor. 3:18 says that we are to reflect God

b.      1 John 1:8-10 make God out to be a liar—we don’t like to admit that we make mistakes and so we hide behind an outside that’s fake. Then we look like hypocrites and make God look like a liar.

c.       Isaiah 26:8 Your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

d.      For His fame and His glory

3.      Others’ eternity is at stake

a.       Brennan Manning "The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable."
Brennan Manning

b.      1 Cor 10:31-33 Don’t live for myself

c.       1 Cor 8:9 don’t cause others to stumble

d.      People are attracted to the genuine

e.       Our actions need to back up our words- Pit and Pendulum

4.      Summarization and Application

5.      Closing- I am not famous…

6.      Champions of the unnoticed life.

7.      If you are a Christian your challenge is to look at yourself and answer,

“is my pursuit of God leading me away from the spotlight or am I the superstar in my life?”       I’ve got one word for you—humility. Phil 2:5-8   like John the Baptist says in  Jn 3:30 He must become greater…

8.      If you are not sure your challenge is to look at the person you truly are and the person you want to be and close the gap that exists. 2 Cor 5:17 new creation…

9.      Don’t mess around trying to be someone you’re not. Your life is too important. You have been created for a great life—a life that tells the story of God.
