Isaac and Rebekah: Family Favorites: Genesis 25:24-28; 27: 5-13
Question; What happens when you show favoritism to one of your Children?
What happens favoritism when you show to one of your employees?
What happens when you show favoritism to one of your co-workers?(page 67 second paragraph top)
Point: Love should be without Favoritism
What is Favoritism ? Unfairly favorable treatment of one or some while neglecting others: PARTIALITY
Deut—10: 17 “ God shows no partiality no takes a bribe.”
DOES GOD HAS FAVORITES ? YES OR NO
God gives us Favor but he does not have Favorites. Example Abraham, Issac, and Jacob
ESSAU sells his birthright( a double portion of the family estate and a everlasting covenant from God) to Jacob for a savory meal.
Essau married wives from neighboring Hitte women, unlike his the standard set by Abraham and Issac.
God foretold Rebekah that Genesis 25:23 “And the Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger.””
Jacob’s knew the risk and he took the risk and the had some serious consequences.
Jacob’s consequences of deceptions: 1) He never saw his mother after that 2) Essau wanted him dead 3) Laban His uncle deceived him—cost him 20 years of his life—4) His family was full of conflict and 5)He was exiled for years from his family. By the promise of God He would have recieved his birthright.(because Essau sold His birthright earlier) He did not have to scheme this deception with his mother. Why? Because He wanted the blessing that goes alone with it.
Rebekah stole Issac’s blessing alone with Jacob’s full cooperation. ( page 68 top paragraph)
Imagine the hurt of Issac, his own mother and twin brother betrayed.( page 68 bottom right paragraph)
