Title: Standing in Kingly Authority as Priests in Christ
Title: Standing in Kingly Authority as Priests in Christ
Introduction: Jesus, Our Great High Priest
Introduction: Jesus, Our Great High Priest
Scripture Focus: Hebrews 7:24-26 – “But because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood… he is able to save completely those who come to God through him.”Begin with an overview of Jesus as our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, drawing from Hebrews. Unlike the temporary Levitical priests, His priesthood is eternal.Jesus represents both a king and priest, fulfilling God’s promise from Psalm 110:4, setting the standard and empowering His followers to also live as priests and kings.
Point 1: We Are Called to a Royal Priesthood
Point 1: We Are Called to a Royal Priesthood
Scripture Reference: 1 Peter 2:9 – “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession…”Emphasize that Jesus, as the High Priest, invites all of us into this priestly calling, making us His royal ambassadors.Hebrews 4:16 encourages us to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence.” As priests, we can boldly enter God’s presence, not because of our righteousness, but through Jesus, who intercedes on our behalf. This priesthood gives us a purpose beyond ourselves. Like Melchizedek, who blessed Abraham, we are called to be a blessing, especially through prayer, intercession, and speaking life over our region.
Point 2: Standing in Our Kingly Authority through Christ
Point 2: Standing in Our Kingly Authority through Christ
Scripture Reference: Revelation 1:6 – Jesus “has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father.”In Hebrews 10:12-13, we see Jesus “sat down at the right hand of God” after His sacrifice, showing His authority and kingship.Jesus didn’t just call us to be followers; He anointed us as kings under His authority. This means standing firm, taking ground, and influencing the world around us. The power of our kingly authority is in Christ, who “lives to intercede” (Hebrews 7:25), giving us the courage to step into spiritual battles. Our kingly role includes authority in prayer. We’re not only praying to God but praying with Him—His Spirit empowering us to declare and shift the atmosphere around us.
Point 3: Influencing Our Region through the Power of the Holy Spirit
Point 3: Influencing Our Region through the Power of the Holy Spirit
Scripture Reference: Hebrews 12:28 – “Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.”As priests and kings, we’re called to make a spiritual impact that transforms. Just as Melchizedek’s encounter with Abraham set blessings in motion, we’re called to shift spiritual climates.Invite the congregation to think of our region, community, and neighborhoods. Hebrews 11 speaks of those who, by faith, “conquered kingdoms, administered justice,” and saw their faith influence the world around them.We are not just passive spectators in the Kingdom; we are agents of the Kingdom’s expansion. We pray boldly, declaring God’s peace, righteousness, and presence over our schools, workplaces, and government.
Application: Praying as Priests and Declaring as Kings
Application: Praying as Priests and Declaring as Kings
Interactive Prayer Time:
Priestly Role: Lead the congregation in a time of intercession, inviting the Holy Spirit to reveal burdens for the community. Like Jesus, our High Priest, they can bring those burdens before God, trusting He hears and acts.Kingly Authority: Guide the congregation to pray declarations over their lives and region, blessing their communities with peace, unity, and God’s love. Remind them that, as kings, they have authority to declare God’s truth over every situation.Empowerment by the Spirit: Pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, who empowers them to live as Jesus lived—praying with power and acting with divine authority.
Closing Encouragement: Standing Firm in Faith as His Priests and Kings
Closing Encouragement: Standing Firm in Faith as His Priests and Kings
Reiterate that Jesus’ eternal priesthood means our access to God never falters, and His Spirit continually empowers us to live in authority.Encourage each person to go forward with a renewed sense of calling, knowing that God’s Kingdom is unshakeable, and through Christ, they have a secure role in it.
