Intro: As I continue to study church history, I have found myself asking the question how? How will so many be deceived?
It begins with the events of (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) Remember Paul is writing to a church that has suffered loss. (Acts 17) 1 Thessalonians 1:6 “And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:” 2 Thessalonians 1:4 “So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:” He is writing to a church who's members are being killed through persecution. He is writing for them to have confidence (vs. 17) and comfort (vs. 18), and he is writing of a truth!
The effect: Imagine for a moment, a world in which all believers, are removed without warning. They just vanish away, and nobody really knows what happened. Pilots, bus drivers, ship captains, schools, hospitals… Think of the state of the world after such an event… Think of the opportunity this ushers in for Satan...
The revelation of Satan’s counterfeit:
The “___________________________” (1 John 2:22)
The “man of _________________” (2 Thess. 2:3)
The “son of ____________________” (2 Thess. 2:3)
That “_________________________ be revealed” (2 Thess. 2:8)
The “_________________” (Rev. 13:1-4)
He will come at a time of chaos and he will come as an emblem of peace… (Dan. 9:27, Rev. 6:2) As a rider with a bow, but no arrows!
He will convince the world through a display of great power and lying wonder. (2 Thess. 2:9, Rev. 13:14)
Through that deception, the whole world will not only follow him politically and governmentally, but also __________________________. (Rev. 13:1, 13:8, 17:12, Dan. 7:7)
Note: The religious system he will use (the “__________________________” in (Rev. 17:3) that “sits upon the ______________________”) will be the same religious system that goes by the name “___________________,” that Satan has been using to masquerade as the “true church of Christ,” or the “___________________ Christianity” since 325 A.D. Called the Roman Catholicism.
The Development of the False Religious System as seen in Rev. 2.
As soon as Satan understood the revelation of the mystery of the church (Eph. 3:9-10), he came up with his own to counterfeit Christ’s church. All so that he could fulfill man’s desire to be “religious” with a counterfeit “Christian” system that will damn their soul to ____________.
The Progression:
2nd Century: (Rev. 2:4) Apostolic Church Fathers - Began to _______________ the words of God.
3rd Century (Rev. 2:9) Those deviations had developed into a counterfeit religious system that God calls the “_____________________ of Satan.”
4th Century: (Rev. 2:13) Satan gets a ___________ in that “synagogue.”
5th Century: (Rev. 2:13) He sits down in that seat, and _____________ there.
6th Century: (Rev. 2:24) Satan has flooded the world with his false _____________________ to counterfeit the Lord Jesus, and His church. Christ calls this the “_____________ of Satan.”
In (Rev. 2:20) our Lord identifies this false religious system as a “woman” and specifically, “that ____________________________________.”
The one that seduced the nation of Israel in the Old Testament, to leave God, and commit fornication, through idolatry.
It was a false religious system that used:
Robed ___________________...
Called ___________________...
Who used ________________ as aids in worship...
In their “house of gods.”
What God shows us in the whole progression of Revelation 2 and 3 is that the false religious system that Satan is going to use to counterfeit the church in the “church age” is actually that same system of Jezebel. Called, Roman Catholicism...
In Rev. 17, it is this same “woman” who sits upon the “beast” as the one-world ____________ of the anti-christ.
For those who think they will make a decision after the gathering together of the saints...
The choice of those who wait...
Receive the mark of the beast...
Be beheaded...
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
The real danger to those who wait...
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
The same sin that deceives you into __________________Christ now, will be the same sin that deceives you into ___________________ the anti-christ then!
Read: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12.
(Verse 12) tells us that they had the opportunity to receive the truth… They didn’t however, because they didn’t want Jesus to mess up their life… If you don’t want the truth, you want a ___________. If that is the case in your life, you better brace for impact...
If we believe that the Lords return is imminent, then with it, we must believe that there are people on the earth right now, that will be here when the anti-christ comes into power.
Revelation tells us of the day, when those that are here cry out to God, but it isn’t for mercy...
And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.
For those that do not know Christ, it is a very real and grim reality...
For those who do know Christ: Knowing these truths should help us to do what God has called us to do in these last days...
STAND not in the ____________ of men, but in the ______________ of God. (1 Cor. 2:5)
STAND fast in the _________________. (1 Cor. 16:13)
STAND against the ____________ of the _______________. (Eph. 6:11)
WITHSTAND in the _______________ _____________. (Eph. 6:13)
STAND fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the _____________. (Phil. 1:27)
STAND perfect and complete in all the ________________ of God. (Col. 4:12)
