Building a Safe Family
The Family that God built by pastor Jimmy Evans.
1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Success is building a family that lasts.
Matthew 7:24–27 (NKJV)
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, (the NIV says puts them into practice.) I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, ( the NIV says does not put them into practice) will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
last week we talked about building a loving family.
the foundational love that we want to build on is not an emotional love but a love that we can only get from God Himself.
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
the word for love there is the word Agape
its a love that chooses
and last we talked about building an honest family.
An honest family is a family that communicates with each other.
this week we want to talk about building a safe family, how do we build a safe family and what do you mean by that.
well I’m not talking about being a family where everyone feels safe, although that is important , but I think that has a little more to do with what we talked about last week in being an honest family,
when we are honest with each other as Husband and wife and honest with our Kids It creates an environment where we communicate with each other and we feel safe to say how we are feeling and will not be made to suffer for it.
but when I am talking about in building a safe family, I’m talking about building a family where we are protecting our family from outside forces that would try to come in hurt our family.
8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

But I want you to know that if it feels like the devil attacking you and it is not stopping, because it can feel that way sometimes, but we have to keep standing on his promises for protection.
7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.
8 Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.
9 If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter,
10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.
11 For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.
12 They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
13 You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”
Attacks may be happening but in Gods mind it wasn’t even close
18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Assuredly means truly So Jesus is saying what I am about to you , you can be assured that it is the truth it is just an extra emphisis.
Bind is greek word deo it means

Another way that we could say it is what ever you disallow on earth I will disallow in heaven and what ever you allow on earth i will allow in heaven
It is basicly Jesus saying I will back you up in the heavenly what you are doing on earth.
Jesus has given us authority on earth so that we can stand against the attacks of the devil .
15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
Paul is letting the Colosssian church know that the authority that was given to the devil by adam in the garden, He has now taken back and he has no power over you.
The only authority that the devil has over us is what we give him.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
When Jesus rose from the dead he took the devil and all the forces of spiritual wickedness and made a public spectacle of them letting all of heaven and earth know that they have no authority.
and here is the thing every angle and ever demon knows that the devil doesn’t have authority , but he is hoping that you don’t know it.
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
so here we Have Jesus original statement that was later repeated in matthew 18
and he is telling Peter the statement that you made about me being the Christ, upon that statement I am going to build my church and the Gates of hades will not be able to prevail against it.
And he says that he is going to give the Keys kingdom of heaven and what ever you lock on earth will be locked and whatever you unlock will be unlocked.
now think about that for a minute what did they used keys for in the 1st century.
They were used for doors or gates.
So in the beginning Adam and Eve were that gate keepers of the earth and when satan came and knocked on the door and they allowed him to come into the earth,
But jesus came , died on the cross and rose from the dead and said I am returning the Keys back to peter and to my church
And so it doesn’t matter what kind of hold the devil may have on you or your family we have the key to the kingdom of heaven and not even the gates of hell can stand against our keys.
19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.
And so as believers in Christ we have been given authority in our live to operate and be that gate keepers of our family.
And so I want to talk about how we as believers are gatekeepers in our personal life and also as parents.
So as we look at what is means to be the personal gatekeeper of our life we have to know that there are 7 Gates into your life
7 gates that you allow blessing to flow into your life from God or 7 gates that you allow the devil access to your life.
1 The Eye Gate
22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light.
23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!
2. The Ear Gate
24 Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more.
25 To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”
we have to be careful what we let into our ears
3. The Mouth Gate
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
4. The Mind Gate
5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
5. The Spirit Gate.
20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
6. Our Flesh Gate
1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?
2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.
7 The Emotion Gate.
And so these are the seven Gates that we have to guard to keep the devil from bring in through theses gates
While at the same time opening these gates to God so that he can bring life into our life through these gates.
And so who you are today is a result of what you have allowed into your life through these gates.
God doesn’t do it and the devil doesn’t do it, other people can’t do it.
no one but you gets to decide how you feel, how you act, how you respond to life’s challenges.
We are responsible for what we allow into our life. and the things that are in my life right now are things that I have allowed.
And the things that are not there because are not there because we don’t allow them to be there.
And so when Jesus says I have given you the Keys to the kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven
I have to realize that a responsibility has been given to me to watch what I let into my life
And the things that I let in through my Eyes, my Ears, what I let come out of my mouth, what I choose to dwell and think on, the care that i give to my spiritual life, my desires and my emotions.
All have a direct impact on who I am today as a person, and as a follower of Christ,
And the more I open these Gates to God and His word The more I begin to grow and look more like Christ.
But the more I open myself to the devil in these areas the more I open my life and my family up to hurt that can come into my home because I have allowed him access through a gate into my life.
And you know what The devil only needs one door to come in and to begin to weak havoc on our family.
a thief only needs one door or window unlocked to be able to take everything out of your house.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
The devil is going to try and attack every gate into your life continually.because all he needs is one.
and I don’t say this to make you scared but I say it so that we stay sober and vigilant.
and we have to remember that we have authority over the devil
26 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath,
27 nor give place to the devil.

No one decides how I feel except for me,
circumstances don’t form me my responses to those circumstances form the person and the character of the person that I am.
It doesn’t matter what is done to you, we get to choose how we respond to those things.
and what we have to do in our lives and in teaching our family that we have to stand against the devil as he tries to enter the gates of our life.
and we have to open our life and let God into all these gates that we talked about so that we can build a safe family.
Now the second responsible of gate keeping is parenting.
not only do we have to be that gate keeper of these 7 gates in our life and teach these 7 gates to our family,
We also have to watch the 5 gates that devil would try to access to get to our kids.
Because as a responsible parent my job is to keep my kids safe and guard the gates when my kids are young and help them reconize these gates as they grow.
So when the leave home they will be able to responsibly be able to manage the gates of their life.
So as parents we are the gate keepers of our home.
so everything that is in our house at one time we have allowed it and have not dealt with it.
Children get corrupted when we are careless in our gate keeping.
we can not blame it on anyone else.
Now the good news is God will meet you where your at so it is never to later. it may be a little more challenging to deal with things as kids get older. but remember that God’s grace is sufficient for us, and he meets us where we are.
5 gates of a Kids life that parents have to be diligent to keep.
1. The God Gate
I have to Show God to my kids , it is not the churches job it is the parents job.
2. The entertainment Gate
Cell phones
Electronice
computers
People we would never let in our home, have access that 20 years ago was not even though of.
3. The Friend Gate
33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
What are the values of the parent of your kids friends.
20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
4. That attitude Gate
we don’t until we see bad behavior to discipline we discipline attitude

6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
5. The education Gate
These are the gates that we have to watch for our kids .
And when they are young we just do it for them. but the we we hand the keys over to them and make them responsible for being the Gate keeper of their life is by explaining to them as we guard, and showing them how we do the same things in our life.
And God will meet you where you are at, no one is ever to far gone that god can not help, his grace is sufficient for us.
