Where, to whom do you place your trust?
Where, to whom do you place your trust?
Question: Where do you place your trust?
25 What you think is the right road may lead to death.
wait, better give a better translation
25 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.
Can you trust your thinking? Here according to the writer it may seem right, the right path, right road, right way, but may end, lead to death.
What about trust your heart? What does scripture say about that?
9 “The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?
So, we have the head, our thinking that can seem right and lead us to death; now we have the heart that is deceitful. But oftentimes we trust our best thinking, we trust our heart.
How about heard the expression “trust your gut” or “trust your feelings?” - - - I do not think there is anything in scripture about trusting your gut feelings. In reality most the time we trust our gut from things we have experienced, things in the past, or experiences others have shared with us.
Preacher Greg Laurie said: “The problem is you cannot trust your gut. My gut gets me in trouble. I’m hungry on the way home, my head says go home make a salad, but my gut says lets stop for fast food. He went on to say. “You can’t trust your gut instinct because it doesn’t give you the perspective you need. No matter how much you’ve experienced in life, you don’t have the wisdom to know what tomorrow will bring. Gut instinct is the result of past performance. And as any investor will tell you, past performance is no guarantee of future results.” Doesn’t this go hand in hand with the Pro16:25 passage?
So, where, in whom should we place our trust? Again, let’s turn to scripture
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
God’s perspective is not limited. He knows our past, has seen our future and looks out for our day each day. He knows where each path we consider will take us and He wants to lead us to the right path when we trust Him.
So consider these things about trusting in the Lord:
He does not change (Heb13:8)
He is source of strength and courage (Jos1:9)
He not only strengthens, but upholds you (Isa41:10)
He works all things for the good (Rom8:28)
He cares and takes care of His creation (Mt6:26-27; 1Pt5:7)
He is our refuge (Ps62:8)
He assures the troubled hearts (Jn14:1)
So in closing listen to this scripture
3 You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! 4 Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
