There will be a few who will be saved, not because the mercy of God is narrow, but because the human heart is limited.
God desires that all people be saved, and He does all that is necessary, but there are only a few who take salvation seriously.
Look at how many people attend church; they are few in comparison with the entire population.
Many people these days preach the opposite of this. They say, “Do not worry; the mercy of God is infinite. All will be saved; if there is a hell, it should be empty.”
But the Gospel says, “Work hard to find the narrow gate, because the way that leads to eternal condemnation is wide, and the way that leads to eternal life is narrow.”
The path to eternal condemnation is wide because it has no moral restrictions. “Do what makes you happy,” says the preacher of the wide gate.
But the preacher of the narrow gate says, “You must do what is right, not just what gives you pleasure.”
“You should enjoy life and avoid suffering because life is only lived once,” say those preachers.
The preacher of the narrow gate responds, “If you live only for yourself, you will not inherit eternal life. Life is meaningful when we live for the Lord, not just for ourselves.”
The wide preacher will say, “I serve God in my own way.”
The narrow preacher will say, “I will serve God as He desires.”
The wide preacher will say, “The church must change and adapt to our times.”
The narrow preacher will say, “My life needs to change.”
But brothers, who is the narrow gate?
“I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” The narrow gate is to live as Christ lived and to hate what Christ hates. It means following Him, carrying the cross, and practicing mortification.
In which path are you, brother? Do you practice mortification, or do you eat whatever comes your way? Do you stop to pray or just waste time online?
Jesus is the door we must live as He lived; He is the only way to eternal life.
