God-given assignments (callings)
“You need clarity on your assignments. True manhood demands it. You must continue to resist the urge to just exist, to thoughtlessly move from one thing to the next, and to just passively let life happen. You must see what matters most in life and give yourself fully to those things while ruthlessly eliminating what does not matter. Life is too short to be vague about your assignments. Every man must know his assignments, be able to prioritize those assignments, and believe God has given him what he needs to fulfill those assignments.”
Your Assignments: People and Responsibilities entrusted to you
Careful thought and planning put into your callings
Things of greater value vs. things of lesser value
Life is complicated, so that may mean you right them down
Seasons of change
Weeks or days priorities may change
Questions for evaluation
Are any of my God-given assignments suffering right now because they are not getting enough of my attention?
What things do I need to say “no” to this week, and what things do I need to say “yes” to?
Are there any assignments that need more specific attention right now?
Are there any assignments I am avoiding right now for any reason?
Are any of my assignments suffering because of the amount of time I am spending on something that is not an assignment?
What should my priorities be this week?”
Don’t forget about your major assignment: the bride
Two other considerations
Inadequacies
Time: is there enough - be all there
Goal: a life in which the things that matter (our primary callings) get the most attention
“You have one job every day—fulfill your God-given assignments to the best of your ability to the glory of God. May the Lord give us the clarity and discipline to do that”
