Bible Reading Week 44
This Week’s Theme: Fixing Your Past
Word for the Week is Guilt: Primarily a state of being at fault, often accompanied by a feeling of being in the wrong. Scripture affirms that human guilt arises from sin before God, and can only be purged through accepting the forgiveness offered through the death of Jesus Christ.
Memory verse: 1 Peter 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
Sermon Focus: Showing humility is critical to restoring a broken relationship
Sermon Passage: Genesis 27:35-37, 41; 33:1-4, 8-11
Genesis 27:41 NKJV
41 So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

THE WRONG SIDE OF TRUTH

GOD CAME TO ABRAM, WHOSE NAME LATTER WAS CHANGED TO ABRAHAM, AND PROMISED THAT HE WOULD MAKE HIM A GREAT NATION AND HE WOULD BLESS HIM AND MAKE HIS NAME GREAT.
THOSE WHO BLESS HIM, GOD WOULD BLESS THEM
AND
THOSE WHO CURSE HIM, GOD WOULD CURSE THEM
AND IN ABRAM
ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH WILL BE BLESSED.
GOD INDEED KEPT HIS PROMISE TO ABRAHAM
HE KEPT HIM IN EGYPT
HE KEPT HIM IN THE REALM OF ABIMILECH
HE KEPT HIM WHEN HE WENT AGAINST THE FIVE KINGS WHO HAD TAKEN LOT CAPTIVE
GOD INDEED KEPT HIS COVENANT
WHEN HE AFTER SARAH WAS 90 AND ABRAHAM 100
GAVE THEM THE PROMISED CHILD
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT
God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Numbers 23:19
IN Genesis 14:22 ABRAHAM CALLED HIM, God Most High
IN Genesis 18:25 ABRAHAM CALLED THE LORD , THE JUDGE OF ALL THE EARTH
WHO WILL DO WHAT IS RIGHT
GOD TESTIFIED ABOUT HIMSELF SAYING IN THE DAYS OF SAYING

GOD DECLARES WHAT IS RIGHT

Isaiah 45:19 “I, the LORD, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
Hebrews 6:18 . . . it is impossible for God to lie,
Romans 3:4 . . . let God be true but every man a liar.
YET

GOD’S CHARACTER WAS ABANDONED

JACOB SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THE PERMANENCE OF HIS PROMISES FROM Parents ISAAC AND REBEKAH who was promised offspring AFTER PRAYING AND THROUGH HIS GRANDFATHER ABRAHAM’s life
THE LORD PROVED THAT
4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He. Deuteronomy 32:4 (NKJV)
RATHER THAN STANDING ON THAT ROCK
RATHER THAN TRUSTING GOD’s WORDS
AND RELYING ON HIM WORK IT OUT
JACOB CHOSE DECEIT
JACOB CHOSE LYING
WHEN IT CAN TO THE BIRTHRIGHT He CHOSE PLOTTING OVER THE PROMISES OF GOD
THAT THE OLDER WILL SERVE THE YOUNGER
WHEN IT CAME TO THE BLESSING HE CHOSE CHEATING OVER THE CHARACTER OF GOD
HE DISGUISED HIMSELF AS ESAU
LISTEN TO THE WORDS OF ISAAC Genesis 27:35
Genesis 27:35 NKJV
35 But he said, “Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing.”
But he said, “Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing.”
A DECEPTIVE PERSON IS A DISHONEST PERSON.
JACOB WAS DISHONEST ABOUT WHO HE WAS. HE MASQUERADED BEFORE HIS FATHER AS HIS TWIN BROTHER. FOR WHAT? TO STEAL THE BLESSING OF THE FIRST BORN.
JACOB CHOSE SCHEMING OVER THE STATUTES OF GOD
JACOB CHOSE MANIPULATION OVER MANDATES OF GOD
TO HONOR HIS FATHER AND MOTHER
According to Proverbs 20:17
Proverbs 20:17 NKJV
17 Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.
The Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.
YES HE GAINED THE BIRTHRIGHT
YES HE GAINED THE BLESSING
BUT HE FORGOT THAT

I. DECEPTION DESTROYS RELATIONSHIPS

WITH HIS FATHER

HE FORGOT THAT
Proverbs 19:13 NKJV
13 A foolish son is the ruin of his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.
HE DISREGARDED THAT
Proverbs 19:26 NKJV
26 He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.
HE DISMISSED THE FACT THAT
Proverbs 20:20 NKJV
20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness.

WITH HIS BROTHER

LOOK AT GENESIS 27:36
Genesis 27:36 NKJV
36 And Esau said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and now look, he has taken away my blessing!” And he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?”
LOOK AT GENESIS 27:41
Genesis 27:41 NKJV
41 So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”
HE WANTED TO KILL HIS BROTHER.

WITH THE GOD OF TRUTH

JACOB WAS
DISHONEST ABOUT THEIR INTENTIONS.
HE LIED NOT JUST WITH HIS LIPS
BUT WITH HIS LIFE
THE BIBLE TEACHES IN Proverbs 12:22
THAT LYING LIPS ARE AN ABOMINATION TO THE LORD
LOOK AT PS5.4
Psalm 5:4–6 NKJV
4 For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You. 5 The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity. 6 You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
THE BIBLE TEACHES IN PROV 6.16-17
Proverbs 6:16–17 NKJV
16 These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood,
THE BIBLE DESCRIBES LYING MOUTH AS
Romans 3:13 NKJV
13 “Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit”; “The poison of asps is under their lips”;
IS THIS YOU?
HAVE YOU LIED ABOUT YOUR SUBMISSION TO CHRIST
SAYING, “THAT HE IS THE HEAD OF YOUR LIFE”
HAVE YOU LIED ABOUT YOUR PREFERENCE
SAYING, “THAT HE COMES FIRST IN YOUR LIFE”
HAVE YOU LIED ABOUT YOUR DEVOTION TO CHRIST
SAYING, “THAT YOU LOVE HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART”
YOU HAVE LIED ABOUT YOUR DEVOTION TO CHRIST
SAYING, “THAT HE COMES FIRST IN YOUR LIFE”
LIKE JACOB HAVE YOU ALSO LIED WITH YOUR ACTION
USING SOMETHING THAT SUPPOSED TO BE A GESTURE OF LOVE AND AFFECTION AND RESPECT
Proverbs 27:6 NKJV
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
A KISS IS USE IT AS A WEAPON TO DECEIVE
THIS IS WHY SOLOMON TAUGHT THAT THE KISSES OF AN ENEMY ARE DECEITFUL
JUDAS USED A KISS TO BETRAY THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
ARE YOU ACTING LIKE YOU LOVE THE LORD AT WORSHIP
BUT THEN YOU LIVE LIKE YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT HIM
ARE YOU ACTING LIKE YOU RESPECT HIM ON SUNDAYS
BUT MONDAY THRU SATURDAY
YOUR MOUTH IS FULL OF DISRESPECTFUL LANGUAGE AND DISMISSIVE LIVING
ARE YOU BLOWING DECEITFUL KISSES OF DESTRUCTION?

THE WAY OF THE TRANSGRESSOR IS HARD

JACOB
Reaping what one sows.
1. **Deception in Marriage:** Jacob deceived his father, Isaac, and brother, Esau, to receive the blessing that was meant for the firstborn. In a parallel event, Laban deceives Jacob by substituting Leah for Rachel on his wedding night. Jacob worked seven years to marry Rachel, but Laban tricks him into marrying Leah first, which forces Jacob to work an additional seven years for Rachel (Genesis 29:15-30).
2. **Shift in Wages:** Laban continuously changes Jacob's wages. Just as Jacob used cunning ways to secure his father’s blessing, he now faces similar cunning behavior from Laban, demonstrating the challenges Jacob must overcome because of past actions (Genesis 31:7, 31:41).

II. DECEPTION CAN BE DELIVERED

HELP IS AVAILABLE
JACOB HAD CONSEQUENCES FOR HIS ACTIONS
THERE IS DELIVERANCE FOR THE DECEITFUL
THERE IS SALVATION FOR THE SWINDLER
THERE IS REDEMPTION FOR THE
GOD SENT HIS SON TO
RELEASE THE DECEPTIVE FROM HIS WRATH
RELEASE THE LIAR FROM THE POWER OF THIS SIN
SUFFERED FOR US
HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR WICKEDNESS
BRUISED FOR OUR BRUTALITY
PIERCED FOR OUR PLOTS
SUFFERED FOR OUR SCAMS
TORTURED FOR OUR TRICKERY
WHIPPED FOR OUR
AND CRUCIFIED FOR OUR CRIMES AGAINST THE FATHER
JESUS IS
THE WAY THAT NEVER LEADS ASTRAY
THE TRUTH THAT NEVER LIES
THE STANDARD THAT NEVER CHANGES
THE TEACHER THAT NEVER DECEIVES
THE JUDGE THAT NEVER MISJUDGES
THE COUNSELOR THAT NEVER BETRAYS

III. DECEPTION MUST BE RENOUNCE

A. DON’T BE RESISTANT

Genesis 33:1–2 NKJV
1 Now Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and there, Esau was coming, and with him were four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two maidservants. 2 And he put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last.

B. BE READY TO RECONCILE

Genesis 33:11 NKJV
11 Please, take my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” So he urged him, and he took it.

WITH MEN

Matthew 5:25 NKJV
25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.

WITH GOD

SAY THAT LORD I ADMIT I WAS BEING
Crafty and Cunning
Shifty and Shady
Double dealing and Dishonest
Fraudulent and Fake
Debase and Depraved
Wretched and Wicked
Rotten and Reprehensible
James 4:6 NKJV
6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:10 NKJV
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
1 Peter 5:6 NKJV
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
humility enables us to acknowledge our wrongs,
seek forgiveness,
and work towards reconciliation in damaged relationships.
YOU ARE HELPLESS
CAN’T WALK RIGHT
CAN’T LIVE RIGHT
“In Him we live, move and have our being”
YOU can’t think, can’t read, can’t write
JESUS SAID “WITHOUT HIM YOU CAN DO NOTHING”
HAVE YOU COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT YOU NEED HIM
EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK,
EVERY HOUR OF THE DAY,
EVERY MINUTE OF THE HOUR,
EVERY SECOND OF THE MINUTE
YOU CAN’T DESTROY DECEPTION WITHOUT HIM
YOU CAN’T LIBERATE YOUR LIPS FROM LYING WITHOUT HIM
YOU CAN’T REMOVE THE ROTTENNESS OF SIN WITHOUT HIM
DON’T BE too Grand to GROVEL
DON’T BE too Big to Bow
DON’T BE too High to Humble
COME TO HIM RIGHT NOW
