DECLARATION:
Ephesians 2:20–22 (ESV)
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Our church family is built by God, upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.
We are joined together by union with Christ, we are growing, we are a dwelling place of God by his Spirit, and we are missionaries.

INTRODUCTION:
Review:
Spirit Baptism Includes: 1) regeneration, 2) purification, 3) empowerment.
WHY?…
If we are going to be developed as missionaries and develop others as missionaries…we need to understand the importance of the fullness of God.
We must move from being Spirit Baptized into being filled with the fullness of God!
TODAY: Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
Opening Scripture:
Consider The Model Of Jesus
Consider The Model Of Jesus
Jesus models for us being filled with the Holy Spirit.
Luke 4:1 “1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness”
Luke 4:14 “14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country.”
Jesus reading from Isaiah…Luke 4:18–19 “18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.””
Consider The Model Of The Early Church
Consider The Model Of The Early Church
The early church models for us being filled with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:4 “4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Peter and John before Temple council: Acts 4:8 “8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders,”
At Cyprus Barnabas and Saul declare the HAND of the Lord upon an evil man: Acts 13:9 “9 But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him”
TRANSITION: What can we conclude so far then about the relationship God desires all Christians to have with His Holy Spirit?
The Spirit-Filled Life Is For All Believers
The Spirit-Filled Life Is For All Believers
Ephesians 5:18 (ESV)
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,
“wine”…Revelation 17:2 “2 with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the wine of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk.””
“debauchery” means wild, undisciplined, cross-dressing, a prodigal
Cf. “Filled with the Holy Spirit” and “filled with fullness of God”:
Ephesians 3:19 (ESV)
19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
The Spirit-Filled Life is…
People of the Spirit (SFL) (Terms, Terms and More Terms!)
“to receive from Jesus’ hand divine power—the same power He Himself experienced—for living and serving and to have the Holy Spirit poured into us
How we “walk” when we’re Spirit-filled:
Ephesians 5:15–21 “15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Walk with wisdom (vv. 15-16) - discernment of good and evil
Walk with understanding (v. 17) - comprehend/perceive/have insight
Walk within relationships (vv. 18-21) - submitted to God and one another
Speak to one another (v. 19a)
Our hearts (v. 19b)
Be thankful (v. 20)…to God and submit to one another
Our perspective may be different than others in the body of Christ, but that doesn’t make us superior.
People of the Spirit (SFL) (Holy Spirit, Work in My Life)
Can you clearly see that all Christians, including yourself, have the Spirit personally? How should this affect the way you might ask other Christians whether or not they “have the Spirit” or even whether or not they have been “baptized with the Spirit”?
Flame of burner being turned up on boiling water…Higher the flame, the more it boils/bubbles.
…do not just remain on “pilot” mode
…Romans 12:11 “11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in [the] spirit, serve the Lord.”
Conclusion/Reflection:
HOW ARE WE FILLED WITH HIS SPIRIT?
Believers before Temple council: Acts 5:32 “32 And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.””
THE SAMARITANS ARE FILLED Acts 8:12 “12 But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” Acts 8:17 “17 Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.”
Galatians 3:2–5 “2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith—”
Obey, Laying on Hands, By Hearing with faith
Talk It Over
Why is it important for Christians to understand their relationship with the Holy Spirit?
How did the sermon show that God wants us to move beyond initial Spirit baptism into a fuller, ongoing relationship with the Holy Spirit?
How can you apply Ephesians 5:15-21 to your work and social life?
Why does your perspective on the Holy Spirit not make you superior to others?
