“Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said”—

“Only believe.”

—MARK v. 36.

· The Brief Gospel.

o The briefest of the “words of Jesus,” but one of the most comforting.

o They contain the essence and epitome of all saving truth.

· is Satan attacking you with fear?

· Are Past sins

o Haunting you like a Nightmare?

o Telling you to give up, you will never make it.

o Telling you, your not worth it

· Listen to His voice

o A still small voice whispers in your ear,—

§ “Only believe.”

§ Jesus knows “your sins are great, but His grace and mercy is greater.

§ ‘Only believe’

· that Christ died for you—

· that He forever lives for you

· that Jesus is praying for you

o Are you a backslider?

· You once run well?

· guilt is alienating and blocking you from the face of GOD,

· GUILT reminds You how you

o used to serve the Lord with Gladness

o Reminding you when your delight was walking with GOD, and how wonderful it is just be close to HIM?

o Now you feel so far away

· “Only believe.”

o While your sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore

o Grab the rope of hope. “ONLY BELIEVE”

o Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there.

o When you pray ask God to help you ONLY BELIEVE.

o “Only believe” the word of Him whose ways are not as man’s ways—

§ God spoke through Hosea saying“Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backsliding.”

· Has life beat you down

o And all your dreams are turned upside down

o One problem after another

o YOU wonder, if God has forgotten you need blessings too?

o Hear the “word of Jesus” speaking through the thickest gloom of midnight darkness

o penetrating even through the vaults of the dead

· “Believe, only believe.”

o There are many reason’s for our trias

o a stubborn thorn that needs removal,

o a lesson we need to learn

o Through it all God LOVES US, though he chastise us.

o God will be glorified in it, and our souls made the better for it.

o Patiently wait until your Change comes

o TRUST HIM

o The word of Jesus to you now is, “Only believe.”

§ The answer to our problems is ONLY OBEY

· Attitude

o Romans 8:15. We did not receive the spirit of fear,

· Anticipation

· ACTION

· Arrival= Focus on the blessings of the MOMENT

· ASSURANCE

· “Said I not unto thee that if thou wouldest but BELIEVE, thou shouldst SEE the glory of God?”—Are you fearful and agitated in the prospect of death? Through fear of the last enemy, have you been all your lifetime subject to bondage?—“Only believe.” “As thy day is, so shall thy strength be.” Dying grace will be given when a dying hour [Page 71] comes. In the dark river a sustaining arm will be underneath you, deeper than the deepest and darkest wave. Ere you know it, the darkness will be past, the true Light shining,—the whisper of faith in the nether valley, “Believe! believe!” exchanged for angel-voices exclaiming, as you enter the portals of glory, “No longer through a glass darkly, but now face to face!”

Yes! “Jesus Himself had no higher remedy for sin, for sorrow, and for suffering, than those two words convey. At the utmost extremity of His own distress, and of His disciples’ wretchedness, He could only say,

‘Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.’ ‘Believe, only believe.’”

“LORD, I BELIEVE, HELP THOU MINE UNBELIEF.”
