Thou Shall Not Make Any Graven Images

I. God Commanded to Not Make Any Graven Image

A. You Are Not Make Any Graven Image of Things in the Heaven, the Earth Beneath, or in the Water Under the Earth

Exodus 20:4 “4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:”

Deuteronomy 5:8 “8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:”

B. You Corrupt Yourselves by Making a Graven Image

Deuteronomy 4:16 “16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,”

C. We Are Not to Make Any Idols or Graven Image and Bow Down to Them

Leviticus 26:1 “1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.”

D. There Has Been a Golden Graven Image of a Political Person Make, and Put Up at Their Convention. They Even Bowed Down to It. Why Isn’t the Church Standing Up Against it

II. In the Old Testament, They Worship Graven Images

A. They Forsook the Lord and Worshiped Baal

Judges 2:13 “13 And they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.”

B. Everyone Bowed to Nebuchadnezzar Golden Image, Except Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

C. They Were Thrown into the Burning Fiery Furnace for Refusing to Bow and Worship Nebuchadnezzar’s Golden Image

Daniel 3:10–12 “10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image: 11 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”

D. God Delivered Them from the Burning Fiery Furnace

Daniel 3:28 “28 Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.”
