INTRODUCTION

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been looking at the particular doctrine of Christology (or the study of Jesus). Last week, we began looking at how Jesus is the perfect fulfillment of three Old Testament offices. We saw Jesus as the perfect Prophet. Tonight, we are going to learn about Jesus as the perfect Priest. And next week we’ll see Jesus as the perfect King.
As an aside, one of my favorite things about studying the Bible is the cohesiveness between the Old and New Testament. As tonight will demonstrate, from the beginning of the Old Testament to the end of the New Testament, the cohesiveness of Scriptures message reveals God as the divine author.
As we begin, let’s define the Old Testament priesthood to help give us a clear picture of Jesus as the perfect priest.
PRIEST: Religious leaders of Israel. They served as intermediaries between the people and God, and as advisors and leaders of the nation.
