God’s Promises To Abraham
God’s Promises To Abraham
15:1: After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Word: Abram have God word in the beginning of time. And we as believers have God word through his son Jesus until the end of time: Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away Matt. 24:35.
Vision: To receive God’s blessings, it is necessary to have spiritual vision.
Shield: God will defend, protect and secure Abram from any assault and injury. God is our shield Psalm 91:4 “He shall cover thee with his feathers, And under his wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”
2. And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer (El ih EE zuhr) of Damascus?
3. And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
Abram and Sari not able to have a child and Abram realize Eliezer (EL ih EE zuhr) will be entitled (Heir) and be entitled to his possession when he die.
Eliezer (El ih EE zuhr): Servant of Abram who would have been the patriarch’s heir if Abram had remained childless.
Heir: a person who is entitled by law or by the terms of a will to inherit the estate of another.
4: And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
Lord letting Abram know here in verse 4. Eliezer (EL ih EE zuhr) will not be the heir, but will come out thine own “Bowels”. Here “Bowels” means “Stomach”. The Lord is referring to “Isaac”.
5. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
The Lord was using the stars to let Abram know, your seeds will be more than you can count. A father of many nations.
6. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
So Abram believed the Lord, which can be interpreted. Abram had faith in the Lord. And the Lord counted him righteousness.
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also James 2:26.
7. And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur (UHR) of the Chaldees (kal DEE), to give thee this land to inherit it.
To whom God promised, which Abraham and his uncountable descendants. The land of Canaan for their possession.
8. And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9. And he said unto him, Take me an heifer (Ox) of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram (Sheep) of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10. And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11. And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
8TH thru 11TH Verse: The Lord had Abram to Sacrifice certain Animals so he can answer his question in a vision.
11. And when the fowls
came down upon the
car-cases, Abram drove
them away.

13. And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
In Verse 13TH, the Lord letting Abram know the “Israelite” will be in Egypt, in bondage for “Four Hundred Years” by the “Egyptians”.
Egypt (Nation): A country that occupies the fertile plain of the lower “Nile River In North Africa”.
Exodus 12:40 “40 Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.”
The Lord told Abram in Genesis: 15:13; the Children of Israel will be in bondage “400 Years”. But in Exodus 12:40; it states they dwelt in Egypt was “430 Years. Look at the word “Sojourning” change the whole meaning of the verse. Sojourning means in this verse “Time of Stay”. The Children of Israel could have been there 30 years before in Egypt???
New Testament King James Version Acts 7:6: And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.”
14. And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
The nations the Lord shall judge will be the “Egyptians” and punish them severely for the mistreatment of Abram descendant which is the Israelite. The Egyptians will leave with great wealth for there suffering.
15. And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
Though Abram would not live to see these events, he would go to his fathers in peace—die a peaceful death—and be buried at the good old age of 175.
Genesis 25:7: And these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.

17. And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18. In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates (yoo FRAY teez):
The largest river in southwest Asia, flowing from Armenia (ahr MEE nih uh) into the Persian Gulf.
