1) Looking with the eyes of our heart: Eph 1:18
18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
In the Bible seeing is hearing and God speaks to us from the eyes of our heart.
That’s why they call prophets seers.
Also hearing is seeing - we get words that create pictures in our mind.
Jesus was lead though the eyes of His heart: John 5:19-20 John 8:38
19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.
John 8:38 (ESV)
38 I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”
2) Blindness. Acts 28:27, 1 John 2:11.
27 For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’
11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

3) What or where are we fixing our eyes when we are praying?
We need to ask God if there is any Idol that is clouding our vision of Jesus. We need pure motives.
An example of clouded vision is found in Numbers 22
with Balak and Balaam. Balak king of Moab was facing defeat to the Israeli army and asked Balaam to curse Israel. When Balaam sought God about the matter God said “Do not go with them, you shall not curse the people for they are blessed” Num22:12.
Balak sent messengers again but offered Balak more money to come and curse the Israelites.
This time Balaam prayed again because He wanted the honor, Gold, and riches and ended up with an impure motive in his prayers.
The Lord ended up giving Balaam an answer consistent with the idol in his heart. God ended up saying sure! Go ahead!
However God with angry with Balaam and sent an angel with a sword to block his path.
Other examples of praying with an Idol in their heart and receiving the answers to their prayers that eventually brought hurt in their lives is Israel begged God for a king, and even though He didn’t want to give it to them He gave in to their desire.
another example is Israel lusted for meat in the wilderness and God gave it to them but along with it He sent a wasting disease. Psalm 106: 14-15
14 But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness, and put God to the test in the desert;
15 he gave them what they asked, but sent a wasting disease among them.
We must be certain that our sight to Jesus is purified and that we see Jesus as One Who is Much Larger than the object or issue for which we are praying.
Looking through the eyes of our heart:
4) God wants to communicate through the eyes of our heart giving us dreams and visions, and Godly imagination. Acts 2:17
Acts 2:17 (ESV)
17 “ ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
Maybe we haven’t put any importance on the eyes of our heart so we do not develop it. Maybe we don’t see with the eyes of our heart because we don’t look.
We can submit our logical and visionary faculties to the Lord which will bring Spirit led reasoning and godly imagination, visions, and dreams.
We are to bring down every imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of Christ. 2 Cor 10:5
5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
The opposite is true as we begin the exalt every good thought, imagination, vision, and dream that goes with the knowledge of Christ.
5) The starting point is to look to Jesus for vision to open the eyes of your heart. Matthew 26:41, Hebrews 12:2.
41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
