Introduction
Hello Dwell, this is Kenneth. Thanks for joining us for today's Dwell Kids Daily! Today is Tuesday, December 10th.
For the next few minutes, I invite you to join me as we look to our Great King by opening our hearts to hear from Him through the words of the Bible.
Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
Opening Prayer‌ How can a young person live a pure life? By obeying your word, Father. Teach us today, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways.
Passage
Today our passage is from Isaiah 7 verses 13-14 (ESV)
And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Exhortation
You might have heard this verse before. It appears in Matthew one in the passage about Jesus's birth. But, you should also know that this was originally said way back in the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah was a profit that lived about 750 years before Jesus was born. And this prophecy about a son named Emmanuel was pretty confusing to everyone. You see, in the chapter before our passage, Isaiah is called by God to speak to people who will not listen, to tell the things of God to people who will refuse to understand, wicked people.
In our passage, Isaiah is talking to a faithless king named Ahaz. God gives Assign to a King who doesn't want a sign, and the sign represents God's faithfulness to the promise he gave David, Ahaz’s Great, great great great great great great great great great great grandfather. The promise was that the Davidic line of Kings would endure forever. He has his unfaithfulness to God, put the whole nation in jeopardy, including the royal line! But even if the Davidic line continued to be unfaithful and was lost, God would work a miracle to bring about the true everlasting David King.
Well, eventually, David's sons are conquered and lost along with the kingdom. They were unfaithful and led God's people into ruin and exile. For hundreds of years, there were no Davidic kings. It seemed like God's promise to David had been broken, but in a tiny town, without anyone paying attention, a virgin named Mary gave birth to a boy named Emmanuel, God with us, the King of kings!
Call to Action Let’s take a few seconds to sit in silence with this good news of Jesus’ kingship.
Closing Prayer‌ Let’s pray together.
Faithful Father, you have set your Son over us as King. May your Spirit help us to delight in the King’s will and walk in the King’s ways. We ask this in King Jesus’ amazing, magnificent, marvelous, eternal name, amen. Outro
It's been great to be with you today.
Tomorrow, we'll be in Isaiah chapter 9. Until then, go in peace, and let the word of King Jesus dwell in you richly.
