Special Words / Message - Rev. Danny Burn

Family — Hannah

Special Words / Message - Me

2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (NASB 95)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
Funerals, memorials, vigils, committals, wakes…whatever we call them…are for the living.
Yes, the deceased are the reason for the gathering, but they are not longer with us.

He is the God of all comfort

God knows how to comfort the wounded soul best
We struggle with what to say to one another, and often say the “wrong thing”
He knows how to comfort because he knows our pain
John 11:35 (NASB 95) “Jesus wept.”

He comforts us in all things

He not only knows how, but He desires to comfort
Time and again in Scripture we see God reaching out to those who are hurting:
Lazarus
Man of Nain (Luke 7:13) “When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said to her, “Do not weep.””
Disciples (Jn 14:1-2) “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.”

He wants us to comfort others

The comfort that we receive should be shared with others
The greatest gift we can give is of ourselves
“Gift giving is an art, and the most precious gift you can give someone is the gift of your heart.” – Author Unknown
