Let’s pray
Father in heaven
Thank you for your great love and grace.
Thank you Lord for loving us and giving us everything since we were sinners.
we rely on your precious blood.
now we will praise your name
we wanna enjoy your love
so come to us
May the Holy Spirit lead our worship.
and glorify your name through us.
we love you.
in Jesus name I pray. amen.
I want to talk about worship.
And I want you to learn how to worship.
Because worship is very important to Christians.
In fact, the issue of worship is very important to everyone.
God created man to be a being who worships God.
So today I want to talk about the true worship that Jesus spoke about.
take God’s word, JOHN 4 and look in verse 23.
John 4:23 ESV
But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
It is a very important passage and it is a basic passage about worship.
Jesus met her.
she is a samaritan and a shady woman.
Jesus spoke to this thirsty woman about real living water.
so last week,
We already learned one thing.
Meaning of True worship.
today we talk about The Motive of True Worship.
2. The Motive of True Worship
What is the motive of true worship?
Why should we worship God?
Why do we do this?
Look again in verse 23,
John 4:23 ESV
But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
Mark the word ‘spirit’ and mark the word ‘truth’.
And he continues:
“for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.”
Now, why should we worship? Because that is what God is seeking for.
That is what God is seeking for. That is what God wants from you.
Say to yourself, “God wants me to worship.”
There are two main reasons why the Father is seeking for it.
The first reason is what worship does to the worshiper,
what worship does to you.
You see, we become like what we worship.
That is why idolatry is such a sin.
First, man makes the idol, and the idol makes man.
We become like what we worship.
Now, that is true in a negative sense.
It is also true in a positive sense.
The more you worship God, the more like God you will become.
The second reason is this.
The need for worship comes from the nature of God.
How did Jesus describe God in this passage about worship?
Listen very carefully and don’t miss this part.
“The Father is seeking such people to worship him.”
“The Father is seeking such people to worship him.”
Now you will see why God desires worship.
Becaues God is our father.
You see, when we worship, we are simply
responding to the love of the Father.
I love my Father because He loved me first.
There is something in the heart of a Father
desires the love of his children.
Let me give you an example.
My wife is pregnant. I want this child to be born healthy.
Let’s say this child grows up well and becomes an elementary school student.
Then we have a banquet at our church.
It’s a banquet for fathers and children.
The fathers bring their children to this banquet.
Everyone dresses up and gathers together.
Then we have a time to read letters that the children and fathers wrote to each other.
My son Podong and I wrote a poem.
Podong gets up first and tells me what his father means to him.
How would my heart feel when Podong tells me how much he loves his father?
I can’t express in words how blessed my heart would be,
how touched it would be,
how happy it would be to hear my child speak publicly, not just privately, but also publicly, about his love and devotion to his father.
This is the great heart of God.
You see, God wants us to worship.
because of what worship gives us.
It changes us.
And what worship gives to God.
It gives God joy.
“The Father is seeking such people to worship him.”
The Father wants love.
Now, I have good news for you.
Every Parents’ Day, little children wonder, "What can I give to Daddy? What can I give to Daddy?"
Well, you can give them slippers, you can give them ties, but do you know what Daddy wants?
Love!
Love!
What can you give to God today?
You say, "Well, I can't sing like these guys. I can't preach like so-and-so. I can't do this. I can't do that."
God doesn't want something you give to Him.
God wants you.
God wants your love.
And that's what He wants more than anything else.
Isn't that great?
Giving yourself to God is an expression of love.
Nothing in this world can love God more than you,
and that is what God desires more than anything else.
“The Father is seeking such people to worship him.”
We'll look at the remaining last points next week.
As you worship God this week,
I pray that you will think about what you learned today
and respond to our Father.
Let us pray
Father, thank you for your great love.
We worship you.
And we want to be true worshipers.
So help us to know you better.
We want to become intimate with you and worship you more fully.
Thank you for this word today.
Help us to live as you say.
