“What is My Purpose in Life?”
1 Corinthians 10:31 - 11:1.
INTRODUCTION.
Have you ever felt like you had no meaning or purpose in life?
Some people feel as though they are not special and have no meaning in life.
That is because they do not know their purpose in life.
Not knowing your purpose in life will lead you to have no hope and feel useless.
Knowing our purpose in life is key.
Job description. What is the purpose of this Job, what is expected?
Our purpose in life is to GLORIFY GOD.
If we are not glorifying God, we are not living out our purpose in life.
Non-Believers do not know God, and cannot glorify Him, so they will never live their purpose in life.
Paul is writing to the CHURCH
1 Corinthians 10:31–11:1 NASB95
31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved. 1 Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
The purpose in Life is to GLORIFY GOD.
MESSAGE.

I. Glorify God in Everything You Do.

1. Life.

1 Corinthians 10:31 “31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

2. Work.

Ephesians 6:1–2 “1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise),”
Ephesians 6:5–7 “5 Slaves, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ; 6 not by way of eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. 7 With good will render service, as to the Lord, and not to men,”
Children to parents.
Salves to masters.
Colossians 3:23 “23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,”

3. Marriage.

Ephesians 5:22–23 “22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.”
Ephesians 5:25–26 “25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,”
1 Peter 4:11.
1 Peter 4:11 NASB95
11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Glorify God through the things we do.

II. Glorify God in Sacrifice.

1 Corinthians 10:32–33 NASB95
32 Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved.

1. Do not use your freedom in Christ for yourself.

1 Corinthians 10:23–24 “23 All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.”
Profitable.
Edifying.

2. Do not cause someone else to sin.

Give no offense
the word “offense” is used two different ways in the Bible.
to do wrong.
causing someone else to do wrong or stumble.
Here it is in reference to the second - “causing someone else to do wrong or stumble.”
Romans 14:13 “13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this—not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way.”

3. Think of more than yourself.

You already have your salvation.
What about those who do not.
Romans 15:1-3.
Romans 15:1–3 NASB95
1 Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. 2 Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification. 3 For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.”
Glorify God through the things we do not do.

III. Glorify God by following the example His Son.

1. Jesus was obedient to leave His Glory.

Philippians 2:5-7.
Philippians 2:5–7 NASB95
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

2. Jesus was obedient to the point of Death for others.

Philippians 2:8.
Philippians 2:8 NASB95
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

3. Jesus wanted to Glorify the Father with His life.

John 17:1-4.
John 17:1–4 NASB95
1 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, 2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. 3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 “I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.
CONCLUSION.
Jerry Bridges - “But every thought, word, or deed emanating from us that is in any way pleasing to God and glorifying to Him has its ultimate origin in God, because apart from Him, there’s nothing good in us (Romans 7:18)”. Holiness Day by Day
