25 “I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father.
26 In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf;
27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
28 I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.”
29 His disciples said, “Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech!
30 Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God.”
31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?
32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
What does our passage say about God, Jesus, or The Holy Spirit? Look with me at verse 25.
25 “I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father.
Jesus is God, He and the Father are one and He is our source of knowing the Father. Look at John 14:9
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you want to know the Father better? Read the New Testament. Studying the life of Jesus.
What else does our passage say about God? Look at verses 26 & 27
26 In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf;
27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
The first point is that Jesus is God. He came from the Father and the second very important point is that God has a special love for His children.
One does our passage say about us? Look at verse 31
31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?
This is the most important question we all need to answer, and I am not just saying the people here, but ever person who has ever lived, is living, or ever will live. You must answer this question. To receive the love of the Father we talked about earlier you must believe to partake in the hope we have from this passage you must believe. Speaking of hope what hope do we have from this passage?
32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
He has overcome the world, this isn’t just overcoming opposition, this is also overcoming worldly thinking and acting.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
The other hope?
32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
Have you ever felt alone? but take heart you are not alone. The Father is always with you IF YOU believe, The Holy Spirit is always present. The enemy tells you that you are alone. But what does the Word say. SO who are you going to believe? The Word, Jesus? Or Satan? The father if lies?
So what does Jesus want you to do in response to the truth of this passage?
First I feel like He wants me to believe! Verse 31
31 Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe?
Answer Jesus this morning. Second if the promises He gives is this passage are true, than I think He wants me to tell other people who don’t know the truth.
