17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
One of the most powerful passages of scripture in the bible…
Peter, you are blessed because you understand who I am
And on this understanding I am going to build my church!
What was that understanding?
That Jesus was the One God of all!
Title: The Power of One
We live in a divided time.
It is in the best interests of politicians to divide us and keep us hating each other.
We are divided because of race, color, rich, poor, male, female… list goes on and on.
Politicians win and America looses when people are divided!
Where do you think politicians got this idea?
From Satan himself!
This is his plan!
Satan understands that if he can divide God’s people, he wins and the Kingdom of God looses!
But when the Church is one
The people of God are one - God wins!
I have said many times that the church is the only place in the world where racism and hatred should not exist!
The enemy tries to get us to focus on our differences.
Things that we don’t understand.
Things that we are uncomfortable with.
We begin to think, they will never understand because we don’t speak the same language…
They will never understand because we are not the same culture…
We have the responsibility to each other to make the other understand!
BUT WE HAVE TO BE ONE!
One church!
One body!
Serving one God!
God began by unifying a multicultural group!
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
Parthians: Iranians who spoke Parthian
Medes: Northwest Iran - Median
Elamites: Southwest Iran - Elamite
Mesopotamia: people from Iraq, Turkey and Iran - Aramaic
Judaea: Local Jews speaking Hebrew and Aramaic
Cappadocia: Turkey - Greek
Pontus: Turkey along the Black Sea - Greek
Asia: Roman province of Asia, western Turkey - many languages and cultures
Phrygia: central Turkey
Pamphylia: Southern Turkey along the Mediterranean Sea - Greek
Egypt: Own language plus Greek
Libya: North Africa
Cyrene: Greek and Aramaic
Rome: Latin
Jews: Hebrew and Aramaic
Proselytes: Many languages and cultures
In the first church service there was 12-15 different languages and cultures!
Every culture recieved the Word of God!
Satan’s plan to to keep dividing everyone…
God’s plan is to unify everyone…
The church is the place where many become one!
The Power of One!
One message
One hope
One calling
We have to be ONE CHURCH!
One purpose!
We have been teaching and preaching about unity - Bro. Godwin in our revival has taught on it.
Language and culture cannot stop us!
1 Cor. 1.10 - no divisions among us
Jesus prayed in John 17.21 - that we may all be ONE
Phil 2.2-3 - Paul’s joy would be complete when the church was in unity, having the same love, same spirit, same mind.
Rom12.16 - commanded to live in harmony with each other, not proud
We are a part of ONE local church, who is a part of The ONE church!
WE ARE ONE!
Conclusion:
I am a part of The ONE church!
There is no English church, Spanish church, African church
There is ONE church!
There is ONE family!
We serve One God!
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
