Ephesians 2:20–22 (ESV)
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Our church family is built by God, upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.
We are joined together by union with Christ, we are growing, we are a dwelling place of God by his Spirit, and we are missionaries.

INTRODUCTION:
Review: The Spirit-Filled Life
WHY?…
TODAY: Diversity of Manifestations of the Spirit
Opening Scripture:
1 Corinthians 12:1–3 “1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.”
V. 1 “GIFTS” does not appear in Greek
Cf. Motivation gifts (gk. Charisma) from the Father (Rm. 12:3-8)
Cf. Leadership/office given by Jesus to the Church (Eph. 4:11)
1 Cor. 12 - concerned with “the Spirituals”
1 Corinthians 12:4–11 “4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
9 “gifts of the Godhead” cf. to 9 fruits (Gal. 5)
Not only gifts but…

MANIFESTATIONS of the Spirit’s presence (v. 7):

The Manifestations are for the church’s benefit (v. 7)

Discerning manifestations (power to know)

Word of wisdom (v. 8) - disclosure of God’s way
Word of knowledge (v. 8) - information
Discerning of spirits (v. 10) - source or motives of people

Dynamic manifestations (power to do)

Faith (v. 9) - beyond saving faith
Healings (v.9) - curing
Miracles (v. 10) - beyond natural law

Declarative manifestations (power to speak)

Prophecy (v. 10) - cf. 1 Corinthians 14:3 “3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.”
Speak in Tongues/Glossolalia (v. 10)
Interpretation of Glossolalia (v. 10)
OPTIONAL:
1 Corinthians 12:27–31 “27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.

The gifts do not make one a “better Christian.”

Paul concludes by telling the body’s members to desire gifts (Charisma)

Gifts include offices, services, activities, and manifestations (v. 12:4-6; 31).
Pathways to Pure Power (SFL; 1 Corinthians) Lessons from the Human Body (12:14–26)

That order of ministry (vv. 28–30) notwithstanding, the church will only function properly and completely when each member is manifesting his or her “charisma” with the “character” qualities of the fruit of the Spirit, of which love is the greatest (13:13).

Ask Jesus the Baptizer for the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Accept in Faith the gift of the Holy Spirit and the new dimension of the fullness of God in your life.

Allow the Holy Spirit to be manifest in your life by acting in faith, hope, and love.

Conclusion/Reflection:

Keep focused on the Giver

Corinthians 12:4–6 “4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.”
1 Corinthians 12:3 “3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.”
