Praying to the Father
Praying to the Father
Introduction: We’ve been going over the series on discipleship. A disciple being a follow of Jesus. We follow Jesus and we help others follow Jesus. This is done through gospel doctrine mentioned by Cole, means of grace and mentorship mentioned by Simon. Speaking of means of grace we are going to go over the practice of prayer.
Prayer is the practice Jesus teaches His disciples and is a practice we do as well. We pray to God for a lot of things and sometimes we don’t pray enough while at other times we pray to Him about things that if we understood scripture we would realize I don’t have a need to be praying about that.
What is Prayer ?
It is calling out in the name of the Lord. Talk to the Lord almighty. We also know prayer isn’t just to the Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth. It is also to our heavenly Father. Who knows you, loves you, and seeks good for you.
What should prayer look like in our lives?
- Prayer should be lifting up requests and thanksgiving to Father.
Matthew 7:7-11 & Philippians 4:6-7
- Prayer should be requests that abide to His will and His way.
Matthew 6:10 & John 15:7 … But why His will? Romans 12:2
In light of requests and abiding in His will we should pray steadfastly.
Luke 11:5-8
*Gospel Message of how prayer even became possible in the first place. And encouragement to let us be disciples/followers of Jesus who prays in awe, reverence, and steadfastness when we pray.
title father instead of just God because the end goal of all of what God is doing is that you and I end up being his children. Our Father, it is corporate.
speaking to the God of the universe who's actually going to listen
I need to pray in a way so that i make sure that i'm walking in a way that's pleasing to him we don't like to be in that place the world doesn't like to be in that place of accountability where their actions will someday be called into an account
all too often we go to the Lord in prayer with our wills requesting God would put kind of a stamp a blessing on the things we're wanting to happen and hoping to happen and and the actual prayer is Lord could you please do my will as best as you can. Stop wait let me be aware of who I am praying to
God wants us leaning on Him. we have a God who has promised to take care of our daily needs. And He will and He does. you see we have to get to that point where we trust him for all the rest because then we love him for it when it comes.
