Isaiah 6:1–9 ESV
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” And he said, “Go, and say to this people: “ ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’

Introdution

I want to talk to you this morning about God’s will for our life..
Everyone encounters this qiestion of purpose
Ive talked to a lot of people through out the years about this topic
Its a question we all face when we get saved and begin to live for god.
Whats gods will for my life
And many times we think about Gods will for our lives in the context of a calling or a purpose
something specific for me..
Caution
but I want to caution us this morning..
God does call specifically
God does put callings on our lives
and he does have specific purpose for each and everyone of us..
Universal
but I want to remind you that we all share a universal calling and purpose..
one that every christian shares..
and its out of that universal purpose
that our specific purposes are normally discovered and used.
and if we get caught up in trying to figure out our specific calling ..
and neglect our universal calling..
we will not only miss a large part of our relationship with god and purpose on our lives..
but we might end up missing our specific calling as well..
This morning
So this morning I want to talk to you about our universal calling as christians..
Gods will for each and everyone of our lives..
regardless of who you are..

Isaiah Passage

I love the passage here in the book of isaiah.

Personal

For me this is a very personal passage of scripture
this is the passage of scripture god use to call me into ministry specifically
Altar
I can still remeber the day that I was in an altar at a camp meeting
and I heard the still small voice of the Lord whisper this passage to me..
who is there.. who willl god for me..
and I remeber just whispering back isaiahs words here..
here I am God send me..
and it was in that moment that god began to birth a deeper and greater burden for minsitry and poeple within me..

Universal

but there are some universal truths about all of us written here in this passag eof scripture.
and I want us to see them here today..
because I believe we can learn something about the will God has for us all..

This Passage

personal Worship
when we come into isaiah 6 Isaiah is most likely in a private and personal time of prayer and worship..
Vision
and he tells us that He saw a vision.
and the vision was of the Lord on the throne in heaven.
and in this vision..
He see the throne room
Creatures are worshiping..
and he sees the creatures flying around the throne..
and he heards them crying out..
holy holy holy is the lord god almighty
the whole earth is full of his glory..
the creatures are continually worshiping god..
and while he is seeing all of this..
God speaks
God begins to speak to him..
and not just conversationally..
the magnitude and grandure of gods voice speaking to isaiah shakes the very foundations of the throne room
and ISAIAH KNOWS GOD IS SPEAKING TO HIM..
BUT NOTICE..
ISAIAH DOES NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND YET WHAT GOD IS SAYING..
HE FEELS THE POWER..
HE KNOWS ITS GOD..
BUT HE DOES NOT UNDERSTNAD THE WORDS BEING SAID..
AND THIS LEADS ISAIAH TO A CONFESSION..
and look what he says..
Isaiah 6:5 ESV
And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
Confession
whats happening?
Isaiah sees the lord..
And in seeing the lord
and feeling the power of his voice..
he is imediatly aware of his human sinful nature..
and this leads to his confeesion of such..
not that he has done some agreegous thing..
but he recognizes the holiness of god..
and his sinful nature in comparison..
and in verse 6 God dispatches and angle to take a coal from the altar and cleans his lips..
and the angle tells him this in verse 7..
Isaiah 6:7 ESV
And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”

Us’

Aware of sin
if we know the lord
we have all come to a simalar moment in our lives..
a moment where through the the power of the holy spirit
we become aware of our sinful nature
and we recognize we are sinners..
who have alll fallen short of the glory of god..
Repent
and what happened?
we ran to Jesus..
we confessed our sins..
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God attoned for our sins..
and forgvae us and cleansed us..
and we become like isaiah in this moment..
cleansed and forgiven..
as John would say.. Children of god..
Next
and look what happens next..
because its key to what I want to talk about today..

Isaiahs Purpose revealed..

Isaiah 6:8–9 (ESV)
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” And he said, “Go, and say to this people:
“ ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
God cleanses Isaiah..
and in doing so he is able to know hear the voice of god speaking..
and the voice is asking..
who will go for us..
and Isaiah says here I am.. ill go..
and God says..
god and speak
Universal Purpose
I want to propose to you today that part the universal purpose of god in ours lives a can be found in this passage..
and that puspose is that gods will for our life is three fold..
to Worship
To witness
and to Wait
and If we will learn to worship, to witness, and to wait, everything else that god wants to do in our life will come in due time..

God universal will.

Worship

Isaiah was in a time of worship when he saw the lord..
but He also saw the creature in heaven worshiping god.
Jesus
Jesus in the new testament is questioned by a man one day about whats the most important comandment
and we know what he tells him..
Matthew 22:37–39 ESV
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Jesus says the most important thing we do..
is love god..
and then love people..
Love
The greek word used here is agapeo..
and it is the same love john 3:16 says god gives us in giving Jesus..
Its a sacrificial and unconditional love..
but in the context of our relationship with God..
It cares the idea of devotion as well..
In other words..
our unvonditional and sacrifictial devotion to god.. is the most important thing we do..
its the basis of our relationship with him..
our worship, adoration, reverent fear, and respect..
Isaiah
going back to isaiah…
Later on isaiah will pen the words of god in context to worship and his people..
Isaiah 43:6–7 (ESV)
I will say to the north, Give up,
and to the south, Do not withhold;
bring my sons from afar
and my daughters from the end of the earth,
everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.”
We were created to give glory to god..
thats worship..
its giving him the worth and praise he is do..
Isaiah 43:21 ESV
the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.
Paul will write in ephesisans 1:11-12
Ephesians 1:11–12 ESV
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
David will write in psalms 19
Psalm 19:1 ESV
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Creation was made for the glory of god..
AT THE HEART OF GOD WILL FOR OUR LIFE..
WE FIND OUR WORSHIP OF OUR CREATOR AND SAVIOR!
but not only is our purpose to worship..
its to witness..

Witness

look what happens..
When God has cleansed Isaiah of his sins..
and Isaiah had consecrated his life to god.
God sent him to speak to the people on his behalf..
He sent him to witness..
Jesus and demoniac..
in luke 8 we find the story of a demon posessed man..
one who is known as the demoniac..
and When he encoutners Jesus Jesus sets him free..
and the man, being set free.. wanted to god with Jesus..
but look what Jesus tells him..
Luke 8:39 ESV
“Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
Woman at the well
in john 4.. JEsus encounters the woman at the well.
and through the encounter she is changed forever..
and look what happens with her.
John 4:28–29 ESV
So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”
John 4:39 ESV
Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.”
She was changed and imidiatly became a witness for Jesus..
Disicples
we know that Jesus encounters the disicples and changes their lives..
they become the most powerful witnesses we see in the scriptures..
All
Jesus in matthew 28 speaking to all his followers!
Matthew 28:18–20 ESV
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
its all of our jobs..
when we come into relationship with christ to go.. and to witness..
to share..
you dont have to having a personal calling to do that..
and if you will do that i promise you will encounter your personal calling.!!
OUR PURPOSE IS TO WORSHIP..
AND OUR PURPOSE IS TO WITNESS
AND FINALLY OUR PURPOSE IS TO WAIT
TO WIAT FOR HIS RETURN WITH EXPECTATION..

Wait

THe entire book of isaiah is a book of hope..
many of isaiahs messages to the poeple are messages of hope for the future..
some of the most well known prophecies of Jesus
Such as Isahs 53
are messages of waiting and hope..
For the coming savior..
New testament
Jesus in the new testament told us the same..
He gave us the promise that he would one day return for his people..
John 14:1–6 ESV
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Revelation 22:12 ESV
“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.
Luke 19:13 KJV 1900
And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
Jesus promises he is coming for his people one day..
and our job is to ocupie..
to be about the father business until he does..
we are to wait though with expectation..
why?
because if we are ecptecing him we will be preparing for his return..
and if we are expecting him we will be preparing others for his return..
we are to wait on him actively..

End

God has given us all a purpose..
to worship..
to witness
and to wait..
Jesus is coming soon
are you ready?
