34 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together. 35 And one of them, an expert in the law, asked a question to test him: 36 “Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?”
37 He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind., 38 This is the greatest and most important command. 39 The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself., 40 All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”

44 The Lord declared to my Lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies under your feet’?,,
45 “If David calls him ‘Lord,’ how, then, can he be his son?” 46 No one was able to answer him at all, and from that day no one dared to question him anymore.Intro

V34-40

34 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together. 35 And one of them, an expert in the law, asked a question to test him: 36 “Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?”37 He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind., 38 This is the greatest and most important command. 39 The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself., 40 All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”

Explanation

in the Last few verses the Sadducees had tried to trip up Jesus and failed now the Pharisees are going to try.
they ask him a simple question “witch command in the law is the greatest
notice in verse 35 “expert” this man knew the law this goes all the way back to Deuteronomy 6:5 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” and Leviticus 19:18 “Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord.”
Jesus answers the question of what is the most important thing as a christian
sometimes we spend a lot of time and thought into the Heart, mind, soul. what matters is that we love him and follow him with everything that we are.
sometimes we try to put emphasis on one of the other but we can not have one without the other.

Point 1 - The greatest and most inportant thing that God has called you to is loving God and loving your neighbor

The Pharisees answered, The son of David. It was common knowledge that the Messiah would be a descendant of David, so the Pharisees answered accordingly. (Old Testament passages identifying the Messiah as a descendant of David are
Jesus brings up Psalm 110:1 “This is the declaration of the Lord to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”
Christ is saying that this verse was written with the Insperation of the Holy Spirit
