3 Qualities You Need To Fulfill Your Purpose
Introduction
Introduction
You have a purpose
It’s a purpose unlike anyone els’s. God has a plan specifically designed for you!
God’s Purpose won’t just get thrown in your lap.
You need to be faithful where God put you!
Lets look at 3 Characteristics of King David that will help us fulfill God’s purpose in our lives.
David Had Clarity
David Had Clarity
1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”
It’s encouraging to know that God doesn’t call us based upon how the world looks at us.
“God doesn’t call the qualified but rather he qualifies the called.”
1 Samuel 16:11–12 “And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.”
What does this mean for us?
When you know God has called you with a purpose and put a calling on your life there are things you won’t want to do, places you wont want to go, people you won’t want to be around because you could destroy the calling that God has called you with!
Knowing God’s plan for your life can also help you to be confident.
Which brings us to the second point.
David Had Confidence
David Had Confidence
It’s going to take confidence if you’re going to really live for God.
1 Samuel 17:26 “And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
1 Samuel 17:32 “And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
What Gave David such Confidence to take a stand like this?
1 Samuel 17:33 “And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”
I also want you to understand that anytime you try to live for God and fulfill his purpose for your life you will have haters!
So how did he have confidence in the midst of all the discouragement and threats?
1 Samuel 17:34–35 “And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.”
1 Samuel 17:37 “David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.”
David had confidence because of God’s faithfulness in the past.
“God will use our past to promote us in our purpose.”
David was also a skilled harp player.
1 Samuel 16:15–16 “And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.”
If you let him God can use the skills that may seem little or insignificant in your and use it to bring him honor and glory!
He Had The Right Character
He Had The Right Character
Notice after the Victory over Goliath
1 Samuel 18:8 “And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?”
David was getting more praise than Saul
Saul got bitter and tried to kill David with the spear 5 times.
But through it all lets look at Davids Character.
1 Samuel 24:3–4 “And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave. And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the Lord said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privily.”
You better be careful who you listen to!
1 Samuel 24:5–6 “And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt. And he said unto his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.”
David was convicted even about what he did here. He had a tender heart.
1 Samuel 26:8–10 “Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time. And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless? David said furthermore, As the Lord liveth, the Lord shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.”
Again be careful about who you put yourself around and listen to!
David knew that God would take care of him!
David had a promise from God!
2 Samuel 1:11–12 “Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him: And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the Lord, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.”
Even when Saul died he didn’t rejoice. He mourned.
Do you take pleasure in seeing your enemies fall and fail?
That is not Godly..
Proverbs 24:17 “Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, And let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:”
These 3 Qualities go hand in hand.
If you have clarity in God’s purpose for your life and can live confidently.
If you have confidence you can have the right character knowing God with be faithful and take care of you.
